36 collectives and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit for implementing the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces.

(Baonghean.vn) - On September 19, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces for the period 2009 - 2017 and 5 years of implementing the Project to Strengthen the building of Militia and Self-Defense Forces to meet the requirements of national defense and security tasks for the period 2013 - 2017.(Project No. 1118).

Attending and chairing the conference were comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Colonel Tran Van Hung - Commander of the Provincial Military Command.

After nearly 8 years of implementing the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces, Nghe An has achieved many practical results, contributing significantly to the building of the armed forces in general and the Militia and Self-Defense Forces in particular; consolidating and enhancing the military and defense potential in the province's defense area.

Thereby raising the awareness and responsibility of cadres, party members and people in building the national defense posture, maintaining political security and social order and safety. After 5 years of implementing Project No. 1118 on strengthening the militia and self-defense forces in the province, Nghe An has so far built 958 bases with a staff of nearly 46,000 people. Of which, there are 480 militia units with over 40,800 people, 478 self-defense units with over 5,000 people.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Phuong Hoa - Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 4 assessed that since the law took effect, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Nghe An province have issued many directives and documents in leadership and direction of implementation. Since then, the provincial militia and self-defense force has become increasingly disciplined, disciplined, and elite, meeting the requirements of performing military and defense tasks in the locality, being the leading force in flood and storm prevention, search and rescue, maintaining local security and order, etc., and gaining the trust of the people.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, the world and regional situation will continue to have rapid and unpredictable developments, the situation in the country, in the military region and Nghe An province will still be potentially complicated. Therefore, Nghe An province needs to better implement the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces, organize and build increasingly regular militia and self-defense forces; deploy militia and self-defense models in a national defense state... to improve the effectiveness of militia and self-defense forces' operations in all situations, in accordance with the characteristics of the local situation...

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien emphasized that in order to effectively implement the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces in the coming time, he requested units and localities to closely coordinate with the Provincial Military Command to guide localities and units in building Militia and Self-Defense Forces, training and fostering grassroots military cadres; and to implement good policies and regimes for Militia and Self-Defense Forces;

Organize the building of the militia and self-defense forces of agencies, units and localities according to the provisions of the Militia and Self-Defense Law and assigned targets; organize training, competitions and sports events according to plan; pay attention to perfecting and improving the quality of the staff of the Commune Military Command to meet the requirements of national defense and security tasks in the new situation...

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien awarded Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces and 5 years of implementing Project No. 1118.

On this occasion, 18 collectives and 18 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee and 16 collectives received Certificates of Merit from the Commander of the Provincial Military Command for their achievements in implementing the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces and 5 years of implementing Project No. 1118.
