4 jobs that are 'thirsty' for human resources with salaries of thousands of dollars

Real estate, retail, information technology... are industries that, despite offering attractive salaries, still have difficulty recruiting staff.

1. Construction and real estate

Recent statistics from ManpowerGroup in Vietnam show that in 2019, the recruitment demand for this profession is expected to increase by 8% compared to 2018. This year, the real estate market has a very high demand for human resources at all levels. At ManpowerGroup, the number of requests from customers increased by more than 30% compared to the same period in 2018. Particularly, senior positions recruited with salaries of thousands of USD are still difficult to find staff.

Ms. Lan, HR Director of a real estate company in the Central region, said that her company started recruiting a business development director in early January 2019 but has not yet found one despite the salary offered being up to 2,000 USD. In addition to the above salary, the company also has many incentives and commissions but has not yet found a suitable employee.

Not only are senior positions in need of personnel, but also department heads and deputy department heads in real estate companies are quite scarce. Many businesses have been recruiting for months but still cannot find the right personnel.

2. Retail industry

Retail personnel are not only difficult to find in the high-end segment, but also lack of resources for ordinary workers. Currently, salaries in this industry have increased over the years. For retail sales directors and sourcing managers, salaries range from 50 to 100 million VND.

According to ManpowerGroup, the recruitment demand of the retail industry increased by 10% compared to 2019. This is one of the industries with high growth, but due to great pressure, job-hopping has occurred strongly over the years.

Ms. Huong, HR director of a Thai retail corporation, said that retail sales directors are always under pressure to achieve large sales targets. Therefore, many employees are forced to leave their positions after a probationary period because they cannot handle the challenge. Currently, her company has recruited two retail directors in one year but has not been able to retain any of them.

3. Information technology

This is an industry with a 14% increase in human resource demand compared to 2018 and is also the industry with the highest growth rate among the industry groups. Currently, the position of technology director is being sought by many businesses.

The HR director of a financial company said that last year the company continuously searched for a Vietnamese CTO position with a salary of 10,000 USD, but for 3 months no one applied, forcing the company to seek out headhunters.

"I asked a human resources company to find someone, but they required a salary of 15,000-17,000 USD for that individual. Finally, they found a foreign CTO for the company," said the company's human resources director.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, Director of recruitment and human resource consulting services ManpowerGroup Vietnam, the position of CTO for businesses is very difficult to find. Because even Startup companies in fields such as E-Commerce and technology in Vietnam still do not have this senior staff. Therefore, to find "the right person for the right job", the company often supports businesses in finding foreign staff to meet the needs.

4. Education

The average salary in the education sector is not high, but currently the recruitment position for education project coordinator is up to 1,000 USD. Especially, in schools invested by private companies, this position can be up to over 2,000 USD.

According to the HCM City Human Resources Forecasting Center, the number of employees in the education sector is currently decreasing, and many high-paying positions are still difficult to find because of high requirements. Compared to 2018, this year the demand for employees in this industry group increased by 10%.

Recently, a company in Hanoi, recruiting a director to coordinate skills and quality education programs with a salary of up to 2,500 USD, has not been able to find suitable personnel.
