(Baonghean.vn) - In Nghe An, in 6 months, there were 96 traffic accidents, killing 69 people and injuring 61 people (6 fewer accidents, 2 fewer deaths, 6 fewer injuries compared to the same period in 2019).

On the morning of July 1, the Government held a national online conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety (TTATGT) in the second quarter and deploy directions and tasks for the third quarter of 2020. The conference was chaired by Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Truong Hoa Binh.

6,790 TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS OCCURRED NATIONWIDE IN 6 MONTHS

According to the assessment at the conference, in the first 6 months of 2020, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the number of people and vehicles participating in traffic decreased, along with the implementation of Decree 100, the Plan for general control of road motor vehicles,... the traffic safety situation in the whole country has many positive changes, traffic accidents have decreased the most in many years in terms of the number of cases, the number of deaths and the number of injuries.

From December 15, 2019 to June 14, 2020, there were 6,790 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 3,242 people and injuring 4,939 people. Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 1,595 cases (19.2%), the number of deaths decreased by 568 people (14.91%), the number of injuries decreased by 1,419 people (22.32%). Nationwide, 47 provinces and centrally-run cities had a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2019.

In Nghe An province alone, there were 96 traffic accidents in the first 6 months, killing 69 people and injuring 61. Compared to the same period in 2019, there were 6 fewer accidents (5.88%), 2 fewer deaths (2.81%), and 6 fewer injuries (8.95%).

Also during the past time, local traffic police forces across the country have recorded and handled more than 1.8 million cases of traffic safety violations on roads, railways and inland waterways, fined VND 1,617 billion 789 million; revoked driving licenses of 151,000 cases, and temporarily detained nearly 305,000 vehicles of all kinds.

The Transport Inspectorate conducted 27,000 specialized inspections, administratively sanctioned more than 28,000 cases, with a total fine of VND93,252.75 million; temporarily detained 127 cars, suspended the operation of 124 inland waterway ports, 80 inland waterway vehicles; supervised 322 car driving tests, 211 motorbike driving tests.

STRIVE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS BY 10%

At the conference, ministries, departments, branches and localities reported on the work of ensuring traffic safety of their units and localities, as well as proposed solutions for ensuring traffic safety in the coming time.

Concluding the conference, comrade Truong Hoa Binh - Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee highly appreciated the efforts and responsibilities of ministries, branches and localities in coordinating to ensure traffic safety in the first 6 months of the year.

Promoting the achieved results, in the spirit of Decree 100, striving to reduce the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries by 10% compared to 2019. The Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to continue implementing the Traffic Safety Year 2020 with the theme "Do not drive after drinking alcohol". Accordingly, continue to promote propaganda, dissemination and education of traffic safety laws; direct the drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions to ensure traffic safety and prevent traffic congestion.

The authorities need to coordinate closely, strengthen patrols, control, detect and handle violations of traffic safety, focusing on handling violations that are the main causes of traffic accidents such as: violations of alcohol and drug concentrations, speeding, people on motorbikes and motorbikes not wearing helmets... contributing to reducing traffic accidents in all three criteria.

The Transport sector has improved the effectiveness of State management in the field of training, testing and granting of driving licenses, and directed the tightening of management of vehicle registration. At the same time, it has accelerated the progress of key traffic projects, strengthened maintenance and repair work, ensured the safety of traffic infrastructure; applied information technology to traffic monitoring and management; prioritized the handling and correction of "black spots" and potential traffic accident-causing spots...
