White House confirms Trump-Putin summit still takes place

The Russia-US summit is still going ahead as planned after Washington charged 12 Russian intelligence officers with interfering in the 2016 election.
"The summit will still take place," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters on July 14, according to BBC. The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Putin will take place in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, on July 16.
Türkiye could lift state of emergency in coming days

Türkiye's two-year-old state of emergency is expected to be lifted on July 18, ahead of its July 19 deadline for extension.
This information was given by the spokesman of the Turkish President, Mr. Ibrahim Kalin, when speaking to the press in Ankara after the first meeting of the new cabinet.
Türkiye declared a state of emergency, which has been extended seven times since July 2016, after a failed military coup that left about 250 people dead and more than 2,000 injured.

At least 15 people were killed and 45 others injured in a mine collapse on July 14 in Hpakant town, Kachin state, northern Myanmar.
Local police said the tunnel wall of an old gem mine collapsed, burying workers who were digging for gems. After pulling 15 bodies from the mud, the search and rescue team paused work on July 14 and will resume the search on July 15. The injured have been taken to hospital.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was arrested upon returning to his country from London, the British capital.
Last week, a court sentenced Mr Sharif to 10 years in prison and a $10 million fine for corruption related to the purchase of property in the UK. The tax evasion and other charges against Mr Sharif emerged after the leak of documents known as the Panama Papers.
Mr Sharif is expected to appeal. His arrest is also seen as a major blow to the party he leads.
Israel strikes Gaza Strip after border protests

The Israeli military said it launched airstrikes against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip early on July 14, after clashes broke out during protests on the border between Israel and Gaza.
Israeli warplanes targeted a tunnel in southern Gaza, and "several terrorist sites," a military statement said.
The statement stressed that the airstrike was "in response to terrorist acts stemming from the violence that took place along the security fence on July 13."
British police discover bottle containing nerve agent

"On Wednesday 11 July, a small vial was recovered during a search of Charlie Rowley's home in Amesbury," police said in a statement. "Scientists have confirmed the substance contained in the bottle is the nerve agent Novichok."
Rowley, 45, and his girlfriend Dawn Sturgess, 44, collapsed at home on June 30. Sturgess died last weekend, while Rowley has regained consciousness and is no longer in a critical condition.
Four months ago, Britain determined that former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter were infected with Novichok and both survived.
Paraguay confiscated nearly 170 tons of marijuana at the border with Brazil

On July 13, Paraguay's Drug Enforcement Agency (SENAD) announced that it had confiscated nearly 170 tons of marijuana during an eight-day anti-drug operation in the border area with Brazil.
The announcement said that during this operation, Paraguayan police seized 156 tons of ground marijuana, 12 tons of pressed marijuana and 910 kg of seeds of this plant in Amambay state, and destroyed 109 drug farms in the forest area near the city of Pedro Juan.
During more than a week of the campaign, the anti-drug force also destroyed more than 120 hectares of marijuana growing area with an estimated output of 519 tons in the states of Colonia Estrella and Santa Clara.
