Ancelotti appoints 27-year-old son as assistant at Bayern

In a surprise announcement, Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced that he has appointed his son Davide as his assistant at the Allianz Stadium.

Schweinsteiger Davide was a player of the AC Milan youth academy but could not progress in professional football and switched to studying sports science.

When Ancelotti took charge of Real Madrid, he appointed his son as fitness coach at the club but Davide soon left the Bernabeu when his father was sacked in 2015. Recently, Davide followed his father to Germany when he was chosen as head coach of Bayern.

Initially, it seemed that Davide would take on a similar role as at Real at the Allianz Arena. But after 8 months of learning German, Davide was promoted by his father to assistant coach. Davide is 27 years old this year.

“My job at Bayern is to support the coaches in training and in preparation for matches as well as in matches,” Davide said in a YouTube video. “On the training ground, I give exercises or help the players by translating. My father speaks German, but not enough to understand everything. I speak German because I studied the language for eight months. As an assistant coach, I hope to learn a lot here. The atmosphere at Bayern is great. Although it is a big club, it is like a family. At AC Milan, I did not feel that.”
