Mr. Son is thriving in silkworm farming thanks to cassava leaves.
(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the abundant cassava leaf source from 1,200 hectares of cassava raw materials for food, the silkworm farming profession using cassava leaves in Anh Son district has developed strongly, opening up new prospects, helping farmers increase their income.
The silkworm farming industry feeding on cassava leaves in Hoi Son commune (Anh Son) has developed strongly in the past 2 years, mainly producing silkworms for meat. Many hamlets have 30-40 households raising silkworms such as hamlets 1, 2, 5... which have brought in tens of millions of VND/household.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong, in village 1, Hoi Son commune, shared: My family started raising silkworms 3 years ago. Food for silkworms is readily available because the family grows more than 1 hectare of raw cassava. A year, we raise 8-10 batches of silkworms, each batch has 4 baskets; one basket of silkworms only costs 100,000 VND to buy the breed, after about 2 weeks of care, we can harvest 18-19 kg of silkworm meat, sold for 80-90 thousand VND/kg, sometimes at the beginning or end of the season, the selling price is 120,000 VND/kg. Each basket of silkworms can bring in a profit of 1.5 million VND/basket within 15 days.

In recent years, many households in Anh Son have switched to silkworm farming because there is an abundant food source with 1,200 hectares of cassava raw materials. The localities with many people participating in silkworm farming are mainly the communes: Tho Son, Binh Son, Tuong Son, Hoa Son, Hoi Son... Small households have one basket per batch, large households have 3-4 baskets. This type of silkworm is used for food processing, has high nutritional content and is popular.
