Today, August 21 - the third official competition day of the Games, the Vietnamese delegation will compete in 16 events. Of these, shooting and swimming are the two events expected to make a breakthrough in terms of achievements.

At 9am, at the GBK Aquatics Palace in Jakarta, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien will swim the qualifying round of the women's 400m individual medley. The final round will take place at 6:30pm the same day. At the 2014 Asian Games in Korea, Anh Vien won a bronze medal in this event, and Vietnam's number one female swimmer aims to change the color of her medals and compete for the top two positions at this year's games.

The 400m individual medley is Anh Vien's forte, which helped her win the Asian championship in Tokyo 2016, the silver medal at the FINA World Cup in 2015 in Moscow, and the bronze medal at the same event in Paris. The Can Tho athlete's best personal achievement in the 400m individual medley is 4 minutes 36 seconds 85, set at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Also at 9am, at JSC shooting range, Palembang, Vietnam’s number one shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh will compete in the 10m air pistol qualifying round. This is the event that helped this Quang Tri shooter win a gold medal and set an Olympic record with 202.5 points in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

In wushu, Vietnamese sports also have the opportunity to compete for medals with hopes named Duong Thuy Vi and Pham Quoc Khanh.

Thuy Vi is currently ranked second in the swordsmanship competition on August 18, with 9.7 points, the same as Iranian athlete Zahra Kiani, and after Guo Mengjiao, the Chinese female martial artist is leading with 9.75 points. Today, the female martial artist from Hanoi will compete in her specialty spearmanship, to calculate points and get the overall medal competition result.

Guoqing is currently ranked second after the men's boxing competition on August 20, with 9.71 points, behind Li Jingde, a Chinese martial artist with 9.75 points. Guoqing's score in the men's stick competition today will be added to determine the medal results.

Another content expected today is the women's football match between Vietnam and Japan at 3:00 p.m. at JSC Gelora Swijijaya Stadium. The victory over Southeast Asian neighbors Thailand on August 19 has given coach Mai Duc Chung and his team a ticket to the next round. However, the performance of the women's players against the number one candidate for the gold medal this afternoon still has a certain attraction for fans.
