Three brothers stabbed karaoke bar owner to death
(Baonghean.vn) - Inviting each other to go singing but there were no rooms available, three brothers in Thanh An commune, Thanh Chuong district, Pham Van Cuong (born 1990), Pham Van Thong (born 1995), and Pham Van Hong (born 1996) got into an argument and beat up several people before killing the karaoke bar owner.
On November 12, Cuong and Thong were tried by the People's Court of Nghe An province for "Murder"; Pham Van Hong was tried for "Disturbing public order".
According to the indictment, on the evening of February 18, 2018, Cuong and his brothers invited each other to Thanh Chi commune (Thanh Chuong district) to sing karaoke, but the bar was full. When Cuong and his brothers took their motorbikes home, Nguyen Tuan Anh, who was behind them, honked his horn to let him pass. Cuong opened the trunk of his motorbike, took out a knife and pepper spray, and chased and beat Tuan Anh, forcing him to run away.
Seeing that, Thong told Hong to go home and get a knife to "join the fight" with Cuong. After that, Cuong and his brothers continued to clash with another young man, forcing him to run away.
When Cuong was arguing with a teenager who had just arrived at the karaoke bar because he thought he was on the other side, he heard Le Tuan Kiet (the owner's son) say that the teenager was his friend. Thong and Cuong immediately beat Kiet.

Seeing Kiet being beaten, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan - the manager called Mr. Le Trung Tam (the owner of the karaoke bar) to come and resolve the matter. Seeing Mr. Nhan calling, Pham Van Thong challenged him. Another customer of the bar called the commune police to resolve the matter and was also beaten by Cuong, forcing him to hold his head and run away.
Cuong got on his motorbike and drove a short distance when he saw a car going in the opposite direction, so he stopped and ran back to the karaoke bar. Mr. Tam - the owner of the karaoke bar and also Kiet's father got out of the car and talked to Mr. Nhan. Mr. Tam pointed a gun (shooting rubber bullets) at Thong's head and asked if he knew that the child being beaten was his son and dared to beat him. Then, Mr. Tam and Mr. Nhan beat Thong.
Seeing Thong being beaten, Cuong rushed in and sprayed pepper spray at Tam's group. Tam fired back but missed and Cuong kicked the gun away. Cuong took a knife and stabbed Tam multiple times. Thong picked up the gun and shot at the shop owner but it didn't go off so he rushed in and beat the victim.
At this time, Pham Van Hong, who had just returned home to get a knife, also arrived. Seeing the fight, Hong grabbed a knife and slashed at Nhan, but the blade flew out, so he threw the handle at his opponent and ran away.
Mr. Tam was taken to the emergency room but died. The Cuong brothers were arrested one after another.
At the trial, the defendants confessed to all their crimes. Considering the role of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Pham Van Cuong to life in prison and Pham Van Thong to 15 years in prison for “Murder”. Defendant Pham Van Hong was sentenced to 2 years in prison for “Disturbing public order”. The court also ordered the defendants to compensate the victim more than 180 million VND, provide 1.5 million VND per month for Mr. Tam’s child, and 500,000 VND per month for Mr. Tam’s mother.
