The meeting will be attended by Lee Jung-hyun, leader of the ruling Saenuri Party, Choo Mi-ae, leader of the main opposition Minjoo Party, and Park Jie-won, leader of the People's Party.

This is the first meeting between the leaders of the three parties since the National Assembly began its new term on May 30 this year.

At the meeting, Ms. Park is expected to emphasize the need for unity within South Korea after North Korea conducted its fifth and most powerful nuclear test to date on September 9, calling it an "urgent and imminent" threat.

Ms. Park will also seek the support of the leaders of the two opposition parties for the plan to deploy the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system on South Korean territory, considering it an indispensable defense measure.

Previously, leaders of both opposition parties opposed the deployment of THAAD, saying that this move could increase tensions between the two Koreas, making it difficult to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula, which has been at a standstill for decades.
