Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board: Efforts to protect and plant new forests

(Baonghean) -Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board is a revenue-generating public service unit established in 2003. Its core tasks are to manage, protect and develop protective forests in the assigned area and implement forestry programs and projects in the area.

Forest protection contracting activities in Tuong Duong are showing positive results.

The total area of ​​protective forestry land assigned by the State to the unit for forest protection and development management is 89,610.85 hectares, located in the administrative management area of ​​17 communes, along the Vietnam - Laos border. The difficulties and challenges are the large area of ​​forest and forestry land under management, the wide area of ​​operation, the complex terrain, and the difficult transportation. Meanwhile, the staff and employees are few; equipment and support tools and means are lacking.

However, in 2016, with the attention of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Forestry Sub-Department, the attention of the District Party Committee and the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district; the close coordination of departments and branches in the area, the Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board has successfully completed all tasks, not allowing forest fires to occur; preventing and repelling, not allowing hot spots of illegal forest exploitation to occur. The Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board has taken good care of the Jica2 Project protective forest, including 72.30 hectares in the two communes of Tam Hop and Yen Tinh. The first year of care includes 29.42 hectares of Jica 2 project planted forest in Yen Tinh commune. The third year of care includes 3.5 hectares of protective forest planted in Yen Na commune. 14/17 hectares of protective forest planted in Yen Tinh commune have been planted.

Submit for approval the dossier of forest protection contract for the period 2016 - 2020 from the forest environmental service fund of Ban Ve basin is 29,417.5 ha, Khe Bo basin is 11,418.55 ha. Submit for approval the dossier of forest protection contract from the career fund of Program 30a of Tuong Duong district in 2016 for contracted households is 10,000 ha. In 2016, the Management Board also created 50,000 standard mahogany trees, 15,000 flower-shaped trees, 60,000 standard acacia trees.

The results from the afforestation and forest care project program of Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board have been and are being effective, maintaining the green color of the mountains and forests, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the highlands.
