International press has had many articles highly praising coach Nguyen Huu Thang's team at this year's tournament.

Foxsportsasia newspaper has an article titled: "The time of the Vietnam team?"

The article analyzes in depth the performance, playing style, and outstanding individuals of the Vietnam team. The author of the article is impressed with the series of 11 matches in the past 8 months of the Vietnam team, including 7 wins, 3 draws, and only one loss against Iraq in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The red team's 5-2 victory over North Korea was considered perfect, while the comeback to defeat Indonesia 3-2 at My Dinh Stadium showed the mettle and resilient fighting spirit of the Vietnamese team.

The author of the article assessed the Vietnamese team as the top candidate for the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup championship, due to the most consistent quality of the Vietnamese team in Group B (including: host Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia), and the convergence of both the top-level playing experience of key player Le Cong Vinh and the energy and talent of the young players of Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

Foxsportsasia also commented that the three outstanding faces of the Vietnamese team are Xuan Truong - an excellent central midfielder, Cong Phuong - skillful and Van Toan - agile. With this attacking power, the Vietnamese team is more than capable of penetrating any defense in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016.

In an article in Four Four Two magazine, author John Duerden said that Thailand is still the best team in Southeast Asia, but they still need to be wary of coach Nguyen Huu Thang and his team at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016.

Mr. John Duerden commented that the Vietnamese team is the strongest since 2008 and is capable of turning Thailand into the "former king" of the AFF Cup.

Meanwhile, online news site ESPN and The Star (Malaysia) also chose Vietnam and Malaysia as the two teams from Group B to advance, not the host country Myanmar.

Aseanfootball expressed admiration for striker Van Toan - who scored the winning goal for Vietnam in the 3-2 victory over Indonesia.

According to Aseanfootball, Van Toan, Cong Phuong and Cong Vinh will be the decisive players in the attack of the team from the "S-shaped country"./.
