Chinese press highlights visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Major Chinese newspapers all reported on General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit, emphasizing political trust and economic cooperation as expected contents.

Chinadaily quoted a veteran researcher on Vietnam at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as saying that the relationship between Vietnam and China is very unique and important in nature, and that the relationship between the two ruling parties plays a guiding role in the overall bilateral relationship.

The article in this newspaper provides figures confirming the economic relationship between Vietnam and China when annual bilateral trade has exceeded 230 billion USD (in 2021). The two countries have also had regular high-level contacts this year to promote cooperation programs.

The article recalled the phone call between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Premier Li Keqiang. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said that China is pleased to see Vietnam's stable economic growth, which helps maintain the stability of industry and supply chains in Asia.

Mr. Li Keqiang affirmed that China is ready to ensure smooth customs clearance at border gates, expand the import of high-quality agricultural products from Vietnam, welcome Vietnamese students back and increase direct flights between the two countries.

The Global Times, the English version of the People's Daily, published an editorial on the significance of the China-Vietnam relationship. The editorial said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be the first foreign leader to visit China since the 20th National Congress.

The editorial affirmed that the special Vietnam-China relationship lies in the special friendship of “being comrades and brothers”, which is a valuable asset of the two parties and two peoples. Since the normalization of bilateral relations in the early 1990s, the two parties have maintained the practice of exchanging congratulatory messages and high-level visits after the Party Congress.

After the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, right after being elected General Secretary for the second term, Mr. Xi Jinping made his first foreign visit to Vietnam. This visit by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong aims to continue the tradition and demonstrate the mutual trust and friendly relationship between the two parties.

Moreover, Vietnam and China are two neighboring countries with similar culture, both countries are in the development stage.

The editorial affirmed that the bilateral friendship between the two countries has entered a new stage of comprehensive strategic partnership. The meeting between the two leaders this time will certainly strengthen the Vietnam-China friendship.

The South China Morning Post, based in Hong Kong, emphasized that General Secretary Xi Jinping's invitation to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong right after the 20th Congress ended, when Xi Jinping had just been re-elected for a third term, affirmed Vietnam's position in China's diplomatic concerns.

The article quoted international relations researcher Kalvin Fung Ka-shing of Waseda University in Tokyo as saying that the visit reflects the solidarity and ideological relationship of both sides, which helps the two countries overcome all obstacles./.
