US newspaper: EU begins official negotiations on admitting Moldova and Ukraine on June 25
(Baonghean.vn) - Politico reported that the European Union (EU) member states announced this idea in December 2023, but it was postponed due to Hungary's objection and the European Parliament elections to be held on June 6-9.

According to Politico, EU countries plan to begin formal negotiations on admitting Moldova and Ukraine to the bloc on June 25, Russia's TASS news agency reported on May 21.
Earlier, the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said that Ukraine's accession to the European Union would face many difficulties, as restoring the country's economy and infrastructure would be difficult.
“Ukraine’s path to EU membership will certainly be difficult. We must take into account the urgency of restoring Ukraine’s infrastructure and economy. But the European Parliament and the European Union are ready to help,” Metsola said.
EU leaders, meeting in Brussels on 14-15 December 2023, decided to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. However, the European Commission postponed it, as it had to choose the “right moment” to actually start the negotiations, prepare the framework for them and present it to the EU Council. The negotiations should not start before autumn 2024.
At the time, Russia warned that the European Union's decision to launch membership talks with Ukraine and Moldova was a politicized move that could destabilize the bloc.
