Murder suspect arrested in Vinh City after 36 days of committing the crime

The Department of Investigation Police on Social Order Crimes (PC45) of Nghe An Police said that on May 2, the unit prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Dinh Luc (born in 1991), residing in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province, for 4 months on 2 charges of Murder and Robbery.

Previously, as reported by Nghe An Newspaper, on the morning of March 23, people reported the discovery of a man's body on the lawn in Cua Nam Park, block 6B, Cua Nam ward, Vinh city.

(Baonghean.vn) - A man from Tan Ky district was found dead in the lake area, with injuries on his body.

Immediately after that, PC45 Department coordinated with Vinh City Police and related professional units to organize an investigation of the scene and autopsy. The victim was identified as Hoang Van Than (born in 1980), residing in Hamlet 1B, Nghia Hop Commune, Tan Ky District, a homeless person who often wandered around Vinh City for the past few years. Initial examination determined that the victim had many wounds on his body, blood had clotted, suspected to have been killed by someone else and had been ransacked to steal property.

The victim had a wife and a child but had been divorced for more than 10 years. The victim's wife had not had any contact with Mr. Than since the divorce. This was a major difficulty in verifying the victim's social relationships.

During his time living in Vinh City, the victim mainly begged for food and slept in flower gardens and parks in Cua Nam Ward. Therefore, Mr. Than did not have any social relationships, causing many difficulties in the investigation and collection of information and documents.

The authorities set up a special project codenamed 318G to fight and find the perpetrator. Along with the investigation, many other working groups were divided into many groups to collect information from the people, extract some security cameras of houses near the scene to build a portrait of the subject.

During the investigation, the task force collected a lot of data and information about the suspect who killed Mr. Than through information provided by the public. Initially, they were able to identify the suspect as about 1.6 m to 1.7 m tall, weighing about 65 kg, tall, thin, with short hair on both sides, dark skin, and a limp on his left leg.

From here, dozens of detectives from the Criminal Police Department and Vinh City Police split into many directions, focusing on vagrants, criminals, and drug users in Vinh City to screen and identify the perpetrators, but the results were not as expected.

It seemed like a dead end, but on April 15, 2018, a citizen identified the image provided by the Investigation Committee with characteristics quite similar to the characteristics of the perpetrator, this person named Luc in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh.

Information about the subject and address was quickly coordinated by the Task Force with the Cam Xuyen District Police, Ha Tinh to conduct a search in 29 communes and towns and identified the subject Nguyen Dinh Luc (born in 1991), residing in Binh Luat village, Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh. Luc is a vagrant who frequently commits thefts in Ha Tinh city.

On April 29, the police arrested Nguyen Dinh Luc (born in 1991), residing in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province, the suspect in the murder of Mr. Than. After nearly 9 hours of investigation, with documents and evidence, Luc bowed his head and admitted to being the one who directly killed Mr. Than.

According to Luc, he often wandered around Vinh city and had met Mr. Than several times before. On the night of March 22, he discovered Mr. Than was drunk and sleeping in the Cua Nam Flower Garden area, in Cua Nam ward, so Luc approached and searched his pocket to steal 30,000 VND. A while later, suspecting that Mr. Than had money, Luc helped Mr. Than walk from Cua Nam Flower Garden through Cua Nam Park. When they reached the lawn, Luc asked "do you have any more money?", but Mr. Than replied "no". After the answer, Luc picked up half a brick and hit Mr. Than in the head and body, causing the victim to die on the spot. Knowing that the victim was dead, Luc searched Mr. Than's body and took 40,000 VND, then walked home in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh...
