Police determined that Hoang was the perpetrator of a series of car window smashing and property theft cases in Vinh City recently.

Previously, Vinh City Police received many reports from people about cars having their windows broken to steal valuables from inside. This is not a new trick but it has caused panic among many people.

Determined to catch the culprit, in December 2016, Vinh City Police established Project 037T to fight and destroy. Through screening information and zoning in on the subject, the police discovered that a subject had recently shown signs of unclear assets and often spent lavishly.

Through professional measures, the police have confirmed that the suspect responsible for many cases of smashing car windows to steal property is Nguyen Ngoc Hoang. Previously, Hoang also had a criminal record for rape and theft. Hoang was sentenced to more than 4 years in prison.

However, when the subject was identified, Hoang quickly flew to Malaysia to avoid being pursued by the police. To capture the subject, the police coordinated with Malaysian authorities to deport Hoang back to Vietnam.

On March 1, when Hoang had just returned home, the police raided and arrested him, much to the surprise of his family members. Searching Hoang's house, the police seized a hammer, a phone, more than 5,000 USD and some Vietnamese currency.

Hoang told investigators that to have money to spend, he often lurked on the streets. Knowing that before and during Tet, many people left their belongings in their cars, Hoang used a hammer to break the windows and steal the property. In some cases, Hoang stole nearly 100 million VND, then used the stolen money for personal expenses.

“The subject often chooses luxury cars to attack. When no one is paying attention, the subject uses a flashlight to shine into the car, and when he sees a wallet, phone or other valuable assets, he attacks. Therefore, everyone needs to be extremely vigilant and take measures to protect their assets,” the investigator said./.
