Arrest of subject impersonating police to commit fraud

On August 20, Tan Ky District Police (Nghe An) announced that the unit had just arrested Vu Anh Tuan (born in 1985, residing in Hamlet 3, Dang Son Commune, Do Luong District) for impersonating a police officer to appropriate property.

Previously, around April 2019, Tuan drove his motorbike from Do Luong district to Tan Ky district to look for his “prey”. Arriving at block 7, Tan Ky town, he discovered a group of students from the Tan Ky district Continuing Education Center just finished school.

Approaching the group of students, he introduced himself as Hoang Anh, Captain of the Investigation Police Team of Tan Ky District Police, who were investigating the case of students organizing gambling and illegal drug use.

Tuan asked the students to hand over all their cell phones to assist in the investigation, and also asked them to unlock all screen passwords, turn off their phones, and write down the screen passwords.

After collecting 6 phones with a total value of over 15 million VND, Tuan said he would keep them for investigation for a few days and then return them.

After committing the crime, Tuan quickly returned to Do Luong district and then went to the northern provinces to hide.

It is known that he is a drug addict and has two previous convictions for theft, fraud, and breach of trust. To have money to spend and use drugs, he often wanders around to swindle and appropriate property from gullible people.

Immediately after receiving the report from the victims, Tan Ky District Police conducted verification, investigation and clarification. After a period of collecting sufficient information and documents, on April 25, 2019, the District Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute the defendant Vu Anh Tuan for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property". During the investigation, it was determined that the subject had fled the locality. Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency issued a wanted notice No. 02 dated May 6, 2019 for Vu Anh Tuan.

On August 10, 2019, the District Police received information that Tuan was appearing in Nhu Hoa Commune, Kim Son District, Ninh Binh Province. Immediately, a working group set off to Nhu Hoa Commune, Kim Son District, Ninh Binh Province to coordinate with Kim Son District Police to secretly check and verify the subject's traces.

At about 10:00 a.m. on August 11, 2019, the detectives accurately discovered the wanted subject Vu Anh Tuan wandering on the street. Determining that the opportunity to arrest the subject was ripe, the Working Group of Tan Ky District Police in coordination with Kim Son District Police and Nhu Hoa Commune Police quickly approached and arrested the subject, and transferred him to the investigation agency.

Currently, Tan Ky District Police are continuing to consolidate the case file and handle the subject according to the provisions of law.
