Tons of fish caught when irrigation lake discharged water
Every time Phu Ninh lake releases water, the management unit exploits at least one ton per day, sometimes 5-6 tons of black and white carp.
Every year, the Quang Nam Aquatic Breeding Center releases more than one million silver carp fry into the Phu Ninh irrigation lake so they can eat algae and clean the water source.
On December 8-12, Quang Nam had heavy rain, causing the lake water level to rise. On December 12-15, the management unit released water at a flow rate of 170-276 m3/s.
When the water is released, the center's staff spread a net across the V-shaped gate and a bag for the fish to enter is hung inside. Early every morning, they collect the fishing nets and put them on boats.
Each boat docked carrying several hundred kilos of silver carp. There are two types of fish in the lake: white carp and black carp.
Every day the lake releases floodwater, the center exploits at least nearly one ton of fish; on a good day, 5-6 tons of fish. "Black carp under 2.5 kg and white carp under 1 kg are released again," said Mr. Bui Van Sang.
Fish from the boat are loaded onto trucks for sale.
Some traders come to the place to buy. The selling price of white carp is 20,000 VND, black carp is 30,000 VND per kg.
This morning, the biggest one caught was 5 kg.
A person bought a 3.5 kg black sesame for 100,000 VND.
Phu Ninh Irrigation Reservoir has a water surface area of 3,433 hectares, a capacity of 344 million m3, providing water for 12,000 hectares of rice and crop production in Tam Ky city, Nui Thanh, Thang Binh, Que Son districts and part of Duy Xuyen district. In addition, the lake also provides domestic water for people in the above areas with one million m3 per month.
