Insomnia is a condition that affects people globally, about one-third of men and women in their 30s and 40s and nearly half of women over 65.
Chronic sleep deprivation has been linked to serious health problems like diabetes, heart disease and stroke, and it can even affect brain structure. Sleeping less than eight hours a night is also linked to anxiety and depression.
In the book “Relax and Win: Championship Performance” by author Lloyd Bud Winter, he introduced the “sleep” method that is guaranteed to help you fall asleep in 120 seconds from the US military.
Soldiers used the method to ensure they could rest – even when they were on the battlefield – and it was said to have a success rate of up to 96% after six weeks of practice.
It is a combination of muscle relaxation, breathing techniques and visualization. It was developed after military generals wanted to reduce errors caused by pilots who were sleep deprived and tired.
How to fall asleep in two minutes
First, you should relax the muscles in your face, including your tongue, jaw, and the muscles around your eyes. Then, you should drop your shoulders as low as possible before relaxing your upper arms and forearms one by one.
The third step is about breathing. You should exhale, relax your chest and finally relax your legs. You should start with your thighs and then your lower legs.
Once you have relaxed your entire body for 10 seconds, you need to clear your mind immediately.
3 ways to "cleanse" your thoughts: imagine yourself lying in a canoe on a calm lake, with nothing but the blue sky above your head.
Or you can visualize yourself curled up in a black hammock in a pitch-black room. And finally, you can also try saying to yourself “don’t think, don’t think” continuously for 10 seconds.
