Bus with Lao license plate caught carrying over 10 cubic meters of rare wood

(Baonghean.vn) - Checking a passenger bus with a Lao license plate, Vinh City Police discovered that the vehicle was carrying 10m3 of rare group 1 wood.

On the afternoon of December 8, after 24 hours of temporary detention without being able to present documents proving the origin, the Vinh City Police Department decided to temporarily detain more than 10 cubic meters of wood belonging to group 1, transported from Laos to Vietnam to continue investigating, clarifying, and handling according to the law.

Previously, at noon on December 7, at the North of Ben Thuy Bridge, Vinh City, the Economic Police Team of Vinh City Police inspected the Lao passenger bus U2-8555, and discovered that the bus was carrying a large quantity of rare wood belonging to group 1 including: Trac, Go, Huong and Mun, estimated at over 10 cubic meters.

At the time of inspection, driver Tran Van Hung could not present any documents proving the origin of the wood. Immediately afterwards, Vinh City Police requested the driver to bring the passenger car carrying the wood to the investigation agency for clarification.

Initially, the investigation agency clarified that the owner of the rare wood was Tran Van Thuan. At the police station, Mr. Thuan stated that the rare wood was purchased in Vietnam.

However, according to the driver Tran Van Hung and passengers on the bus, the wood was transported from Laos to Vietnam through Cau Treo border gate (Ha Tinh).

A passenger on the bus also added that on the journey from Laos to Vietnam, the driver of the Lao passenger bus with license plate U2-8555 only stopped to eat along the way and refuel, and did not stop anywhere else to load wood.

Vinh City Police decided to take all the rare wood above to the temporary storage warehouse to continue investigating and handling according to the law.
