According to her family, when she was in 9th grade, Ngoc had to help her family sell lottery tickets to earn extra income. An older man in the same commune often called Ngoc into his house to buy lottery tickets.
One time, Ngoc went to sell lottery tickets near her house when this man called her in, locked the door, and used force to rape her. After that, this man threatened and forbade the victim from revealing the incident. According to Ngoc, this man then raped her again.
“He asked me to come into his house to buy lottery tickets and then forced me to do it. I didn’t dare tell my family because I was threatened, so I endured it alone,” Ngoc said.
At the end of the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year, the mother discovered that the female student’s belly was getting bigger and bigger. “I looked over and saw that her belly was showing signs of abnormality. With a woman’s intuition, I was very worried,” the female student’s mother said, choking up.
After Ngoc finished her semester exams, her mother took her daughter to the doctor and discovered that she was 7 months pregnant. At this time, the mother asked about the creator of the fetus.
Ngoc kept crying and refused to talk. “I saw that she was so emotional that I didn’t ask any more questions. Two days later, Ngoc said that around the end of 2016, while selling lottery tickets, she was raped by a man in the same neighborhood,” the mother said.
The man Ngoc said had raped her was over 60 years old, living a few hundred meters from her home. Her mother and relatives went to the man’s house to ask him what had happened.
However, this person denied and did not admit to being the “author” of the fetus in Ngoc’s belly. At that time, the mother was upset and said she would report the incident to the police for investigation.
“When I got home, his relatives came to my house and invited me to come back to talk. I refused and wanted the matter to be resolved by the law,” Ngoc’s mother asserted.
The family then reported the incident to the police. The Cang Long District Police took statements from those involved. After Ngoc gave birth, the police conducted procedures to request a DNA test to clarify whether the accused man was the child's father or not.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Huyen Hoi Commune said that when the incident occurred, the locality sent representatives to visit and encourage the family. The incident involved the whistleblower, the police have accepted the case and are conducting the investigation steps.
Locals said the girl’s family was in a very difficult situation. Her biological father left when she was 2 years old. The mother and daughter lived on land borrowed from the temple and sold lottery tickets to make a living.
