Thuong Tru ferry terminal - the place where the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee was established.

A horizontal plaque bears the solemn gold inscription: "Thuong Tru Ferry Terminal, the site of the establishment of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, March 1930".

On that day, one night in early March, just nearly two months after the founding of our Party (February 3, 1930), a historically significant event took place on a boat at Thuong Tru ferry landing. Comrade Tran Huu Thieu (also known as Nguyen Trung Thien), a member of the Central Vietnam Regional Party Committee, convened and chaired the conference to establish the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee. The conference elected a provisional Executive Committee, and Comrade Nguyen Trung Thien was appointed Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

The conference addressed several issues regarding the direction and principles of operation, the establishment of Party organizations, and the policy of mobilizing the masses for struggle. The establishment of the Ha Tinh Party Committee was a milestone marking a significant turning point in the revolutionary movement of the people of our province in the early 20th century.

Immediately after its establishment, the Provincial Party Committee focused on leading the expansion of the system.Party organizationThey established district-level Party committees, village and commune Party branches, and recruited hundreds of Party members. The newspaper "Moving Forward," the first mouthpiece of the Provincial Party Committee, and hundreds of leaflets reached the masses. Red seeds were sown on the impoverished and suffering land of Lam Hong, yet rich in patriotic and revolutionary traditions. Guided by the light of Marxism-Leninism, the Political Thesis, and the Party's political line, tens of thousands of suffering masses awakened, shook off the mud, and rose up to fight against the colonial and feudal yoke. Numerous large demonstrations broke out continuously in the districts of Can Loc, Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, Huong Khe, and others.

Like a waterfall overflowing its banks, farmers from villages and communes poured into the district headquarters, burning down buildings and demanding a reduction in taxes and levies, and punishment for powerful local figures, shaking the foundations of the colonial and feudal ruling apparatus. The people rose up to seize power, punish the powerful local figures, dismantle the puppet regime, and establish Soviet-style governments throughout the province.

In harmony with the fighting spirit of the workers of Vinh - Ben Thuy and the farmers of the districts in Nghe An, the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee launched a demonstration on December 22, 1930, at the Nghen intersection to commemorate the "Guangzhou Uprising." Tens of thousands of farmers from Can Loc district, with the support of the demonstration group from Thach Ha district, marched en masse to the district headquarters, shouting slogans demanding the overthrow of colonial and feudal rule. Frightened by the power of the masses, the enemy opened fire on the demonstration, killing 42 revolutionary fighters.

This was the bloodiest massacre in the movement.Nghe Tinh SovietIn 1930-1931 in our province, Comrade Nguyen Trung Thien was also captured by the enemy, brutally tortured, and executed at the foot of Hong Linh mountain. Although the movement was later brutally suppressed by the enemy, hundreds of party members and revolutionary masses were arrested, imprisoned, and murdered, and many villages were burned down, the flame of the Soviet movement continued to smolder, so that 15 years later, Ha Tinh once again took the lead in the great August Revolution of 1945.

That tradition was strongly upheld, forging the heroic Dong Loc Victory during the years of fighting against the Americans, contributing to the nation's overall victory in the Spring of 1975.

The Thuong Tru ferry terminal and the Soviet homeland today are shining with the vitality of a rural area on the path to building a new rural community. The economy of Can Loc district maintains rapid and sustainable growth. The lives of the people are constantly improving. Technical infrastructure such as irrigation, electricity, roads, schools, health stations, markets, housing, offices, and cultural centers are being built synchronously.

Many cooperatives, cooperative groups, and enterprises were established. Production and business efficiency increased rapidly. Traditional customs and values ​​were revived, and cultural and spiritual life flourished. Villages became green, clean, beautiful, and healthy. In many places, it felt like "a city within a village."

In 2018, Dong Loc commune achieved urban status of type V and was recognized as a town. Nghen town basically met the criteria for urban status of type IV. On October 17, 2019, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1405/QD-TTg recognizing Can Loc as a new rural district.

The once impoverished Thuong Tru village by the river has now become part of Thien Loc commune – a Heroic Labor Commune during the đổi mới (renovation) period, a shining example of a prosperous and beautiful rural area. And the Nghen Soviet-era intersection, a place of both suffering and heroism in the 1930s, is gradually rising to become a highlight of the urban area, progressively moving towards a modern and civilized town.
