Defending brother-in-law, a man with two previous convictions for beating someone to death

On June 29, Dong Thap People's Court held a first-instance trial and sentenced Le Quang Tien (38 years old, Sa Dec City) to 20 years in prison for murder.

According to the records, on the evening of November 8, 2016, Mr. Phan Quoc Tung and his friends were having a drinking party at his fiancee’s house when Tien’s brother-in-law came to collect the debt. The two sides got into an argument which led to a fight, but were stopped and both left.

Hearing that his brother-in-law had been beaten, Tien chased after him on his motorbike and crashed straight into Tung, knocking him unconscious. Tien then used his helmet to repeatedly hit Tung on the head until someone intervened. The victim was taken to the emergency room but died.

In court, Tien admitted all his crimes. The jury determined that the defendant's actions constituted murder and were of a hooligan nature, so he needed to be severely punished.

Previously, Tien had two previous convictions for theft and extortion./.
