Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital activates 'Live Blood Bank' to save a pregnant woman in Ha Tinh
(Baonghean.vn) - At noon on August 24, an urgent announcement from the Youth Union of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital about a pregnant woman in urgent need of blood for an emergency cesarean section was sent to all staff of the hospital... A few minutes after the call, many medical staff were present and donated blood to save the patient.

Pregnant woman LTO (31 years old, in Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh province) was 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant when her water broke prematurely. This was the second birth of the pregnant woman, before that she had a cesarean section. The condition of pregnant woman O could not wait long, she needed an emergency cesarean section to ensure the safety of both mother and fetus.
Through blood tests, doctors found that the LTO mother had idiopathic thrombocytopenia… In order to perform an emergency cesarean section, at least 3 units of platelets must be prepared, ready to transfuse the mother during and after the surgery.

The hospital's Obstetrics Department informed the pregnant woman's family of the critical situation and mobilized blood group A (Rh+) from the family. However, all family members were not in good enough health to donate blood for platelet filtration from the automatic blood separator.
Faced with this critical situation, the Youth UnionNghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospitalhas launched the spirit of blood donation from the medical staff of the entire hospital. The list of 154 medical staff with blood type A from the Hospital's Live Blood Bank has been activated and is ready to go to Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to "donate blood" to save patients.

With the enthusiastic support of volunteers, 3 units of group A platelets were promptly transferred to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. At 3:00 p.m. on August 24, the LTO mother entered the cesarean section. At 3:20 p.m., the 2.8 kg baby boy cried out at birth.
Although there is a blood reserve from the Provincial Blood Transfusion Hematology Center,Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospitalstill established the "Living Blood Bank" Club with the participation of many medical staff, ready to proactively support patients in emergency situations. Medical staff of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital are always responsible and dedicated to their work; always willing to donate their blood to save patients.../.
