The '4-7-8' trick helps you fall asleep in 60 seconds
Having trouble sleeping? This trick will help you fall asleep in just 60 seconds.
Who doesn't want to have a deep, good night's sleep, without dreams, so that the next morning the body can have a source of energy full of vitality.
However, life is not like a dream! In the age of advanced technology, the environment has too much artificial light, our biological clock has been greatly deviated from the real needs of the body. As a result, even though we go to bed very early, we still sleep late, making the body always in a state of fatigue.
We are always sleep deprived.
Furthermore, lack of sleep can be affected by work pressure, causing many unhealthy symptoms: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and above all, reducing human life expectancy.
So, if you don’t want these disasters to happen, you have to find a way to go to bed on time. And Dr. Andrew Weil - a very famous American sleep expert has created a method that can help you fall asleep extremely fast, in less than 1 minute.
He calls it the 4-7-8 method. Specifically, it consists of the following five steps:
1. Exhale, or blow out completely through your mouth. Note: breathe out strongly, making a sound. Place the tip of your tongue behind your upper teeth.
2. Close your mouth, inhale gently through your mouth, counting silently to 4 in your head.
3. Hold your breath and count to 7.
4. Exhale loudly again, counting to 8.
5. Close your mouth, inhale gently, repeat the whole process 3 more times.
According to Dr. Weil, if done correctly, even a person with chronic insomnia can fall asleep very quickly. And the secret here is simply the way we breathe. It is drawn from an ancient Indian breathing exercise called pranayama, which is still applied in yoga today.
Place your tongue against the back of your upper jaw, then exhale forcefully.
"The whole exercise only takes about 30 seconds, so there's no reason not to try it."
Dr. Weil explains that this practice helps fill your lungs with air, which pushes more oxygen into your body and puts your mind in a calm state.
"Practice this breathing technique about twice a day. It's a great way to help you sleep well."
"After 4 - 6 weeks, you will see amazing benefits happening to your body."
The benefits of this breathing technique extend beyond sleep. Dr. Weil says it can help you control your appetite and curb your anger, thereby reducing stress on your mind.
Even as far back as 1975, a Harvard study led by Herbert Benson theorized that meditative breathing practices could “rewire” the body’s genes—in a beneficial way, of course.
