Provincial Party Secretary: The province will not organize fireworks displays, save spending to take care of the poor during Tet

(Baonghean.vn) – On the afternoon of January 8, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2017, comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly delegation of the province visited and presented gifts to policy families, poor households, and the elderly in Hoang Mai town.

Accompanying were comrades: Thai Thanh Quy - Candidate member of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Provincial Party Committee Office; Ho Phuc Hop - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; representatives of the Provincial Police, the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province; the Religious Affairs Committee, the Department of Home Affairs; and the Provincial Civil Judgment Enforcement Department.

At Quynh Xuan ward, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh and the delegation presented 19 gifts including 5 televisions to 5 households, 14 million VND to 14 households of Quynh Xuan ward and Quynh Trang commune. Next, at Quynh Vinh commune headquarters, the Provincial Party Secretary and the delegation presented 31 gifts, including 5 televisions to 5 households and 26 million VND to 26 households of Quynh Vinh, Quynh Lap, Quynh Loc communes and Quynh Di ward.

These are all poor households, including many Catholic and non-Catholic families in especially difficult circumstances, policy families, and the elderly.

Speaking to people at the gift-giving destinations, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh informed about some socio-economic features of the province in 2016, in which economic growth reached 7.5%, budget revenue reached more than 11,000 billion VND, and people's lives were improved. In particular, in the past year, the province continued to pay attention to poverty reduction and the poverty rate gradually decreased from 12.1% in 2015 to 9.5% at the end of 2016.

However, the whole province still has 74,747 poor households. With the hope that all people will have the conditions to celebrate the Lunar New Year of Dinh Dau in 2017, the province will not organize fireworks displays, save unnecessary expenses; at the same time, call on cadres, party members, people, businesses, and philanthropists to join hands to support the poor during Tet.

On the occasion of the coming of Tet, the Provincial Party Secretary wished people a happy and warm Tet; at the same time, he asked the leaders of Hoang Mai town to continue calling for support for Tet for the poor, so that everyone can have the conditions to celebrate Tet.

Comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh also thanked the units, businesses, and philanthropists who supported and accompanied the province to join hands to take care of Tet for the poor.

Reporting to the Provincial Party Secretary, Hoang Mai Town Party Secretary Doan Hong Vu said that in recent years, the town's poverty rate has decreased rapidly, reaching 4.19% by the end of 2016, equivalent to 1,127 households. Implementing the Provincial Party Secretary's Appeal Letter, Hoang Mai Town has mobilized more than 1 billion VND, exceeding the set target to take care of Tet for the poor.
