Trio shares 54 years in prison for 'cooperating' in drug trafficking

(Baonghean.vn) - For money, the three subjects Tuan, Son, and Hoang colluded to buy and sell heroin. The trio had to share 54 years in prison.

Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened a first-instance criminal trial to try three defendants, Tran Anh Tuan (born in 1982), residing in Chau Thang commune, Quy Chau district; Nguyen Duy Son (born in 1991), residing in Van Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An), for the same crime.Illegal drug trafficking.
Defendant Nguyen Duy Hoang (born in 1983), residing in Van Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, was prosecuted for two crimes of illegal drug trafficking and possession.
According to the indictment, around mid-April 2021, Hoang and Son discussed buying drugs to sell for profit. The two agreed that Hoang would buy the drugs, while Son would buy them and then retail them to addicts.

Hoang then contacted Tuan to order drugs. After receiving the order, Tuan went to the suspension bridge area in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district to buy 3 packages of pink phien for 9.6 million VND. On the same day, Tuan sold the drugs to Hoang for 13.5 million VND.

Of the 3 packages of heroin he bought, Hoang kept 1 package for his own use and sold the remaining 2 packages to Son for nearly 12 million VND. In addition, Hoang also bought more than 20 grams of drugs from Tuan with the intention of selling them for profit.
As for Son, after buying drugs, he sold them to addicts for 80 to 100 thousand VND/pill. Late at night on April 19, 2021, while Son was selling drugs to customers, he was caught red-handed by the police.
When he learned that Son was arrested, Hoang went to the police station to surrender. Tuan was also arrested later.
The investigation agency determined that in this case, Tuan must bear criminal responsibility for the crime of illegally buying and selling drugs with a total weight of more than 69 grams.
Nguyen Duy Hoang must bear criminal responsibility for two times of buying and selling more than 62 grams of drugs and possessing more than 6.5 grams of drugs.
Nguyen Duy Son was held responsible for buying and selling drugs twice with a total weight of more than 41 grams.
At the trial, the defendants admitted to their crimes. They said they bought and sold drugs to make a profit.
The panel of judges determined that in this case, the defendants' honest confessions were a mitigating circumstance. In addition, the defendants also had to face the aggravating circumstance of committing the crime two or more times.
Considering the role of each defendant in the case, the People's Court sentenced Tran Anh Tuan to 17 years in prison and Nguyen Duy Son to 15 years and 6 months in prison for illegal drug trafficking.
Sentenced defendant Nguyen Duy Hoang to 16 years and 6 months in prison for illegal drug trafficking, 5 years in prison for illegal drug possession, total sentence is 21 years and 6 months in prison.
