The Politburo held a national conference on the development of the Mekong Delta.
The conference on implementing the Resolution on developing the Mekong Delta took place after the conference on implementing the Resolution on developing the Northern midland and mountainous region.
Today (April 22), under the chairmanship of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Politburo and the Secretariat held a national conference to disseminate and implement Resolution 13-NQ/TW dated April 2, 2022 of the Politburo on socio-economic development orientations, ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

This is the second conference on regional development held.Politburo, organized by the Secretariat. The first conference was held on the morning of April 15, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, chaired by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, to disseminate and implement Resolution 11 dated February 10, 2022 of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the midland and mountainous regions of the North to 2030, with a vision to 2045, in a combination of direct and online forms.
The Mekong Delta is an important economic region in the sustainable development of the country, with a very important geopolitical, security and defense position. It is the largest delta in Southeast Asia, the rice granary of the whole country, with a unique river civilization, home to more than 17 million ethnic minorities such as Kinh, Khmer, Cham,...
With such an important role and significance, the Party and State always pay special attention to the Mekong Delta. Many important resolutions and documents on this issue have been issued by our Party, including Resolution No. 21-NQ/TW, dated January 20, 2003 of the 9th Politburo on the direction, tasks and solutions for socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta in the 2001-2010 period.
Resolution No. 21-NQ/TW has identified important orientations, goals and solutions to accelerate the sustainable development of the region, clearly stating the goal: “Building the Mekong Delta region to become a key economic development region of the whole country with high, effective and sustainable economic growth; linking the development of productive forces with the construction of new and suitable production relations; cultural and social aspects catching up with the general level of the whole country, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, especially the Khmer people and people in flood-prone areas; socio-economic development closely linked with the protection of the ecological environment, ensuring political stability, order, social safety and solid national security and defense”.
The objectives of Resolution No. 21 have been basically achieved; positively impacting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region, promoting the potential and advantages of the region, making important contributions to the overall achievements of the whole country in recent times...
After nearly 20 years of implementation, the Politburo unanimously issued a new Resolution to replace Resolution No. 21 on "Orientations for socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045" with a mindset, viewpoint, and vision suitable to the new context, aiming to set out specific goals, policies, and solutions to overcome limitations, weaknesses, and remove difficulties in implementing Resolution No. 21, to continue to create positive changes in socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region in the coming time./.
