(Baonghean.vn) - When seeing a mad buffalo continuously goring 2 people in Do Luong district (Nghe An), the authorities had to shoot it down to protect the people's safety.

On May 31, doctors at Nghe An General Hospital said they were trying to save two patients, Nguyen Thi Quyen (42 years old) and Le Van Kiem (72 years old), residing in Dai Son commune, Do Luong district, who were gored by a buffalo.

On the afternoon of May 30, after a day of herding buffalo for hire, on the way home, the buffalo Ms. Quyen was herding suddenly went crazy, charged straight at her and knocked her away. Then, it continued to run about 300m away and attacked Mr. Kiem who was standing on the side of the road.

Upon receiving the news, the military forces of Do Luong district arrived at the scene to find a way to control the buffalo. After reaching an agreement, the district military officers shot the animal to ensure the safety of the people.

The two victims Nguyen Thi Quyen and Le Van Kiem were taken to the emergency room in critical condition, with multiple injuries and coma.

After a quick consultation, the doctors determined that patient Quyen's condition was quite serious, lethargic, gradually falling into a coma, shock due to blood loss; pneumothorax, blood in both lungs; fracture of the right shoulder blade, multiple fractures of both ribs, and a fracture of the C3 vertebra. Accompanying the condition was a traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Patient Kiem also suffered multiple soft tissue injuries, bilateral clavicle fractures, and hemorrhagic shock.

Doctor Nguyen Van Thanh, Department of Surgical Resuscitation, said: “Immediately after being admitted to the hospital, the patient was actively resuscitated, put on a ventilator, given pain relievers, anti-shock drugs, and transfused with 2 liters of blood. Patient Quyen had to have a pleural drainage, and due to the severe injury to the rib cage, we consulted with doctors from the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery to find a suitable treatment plan. We are currently closely monitoring the progress of the two patients.”
