After a long period of storms and floods, the border area of Tri Le commune was severely affected. In the midst of hardship, soldiers of Tri Le Border Guard Station still persevered to stay at their posts, helping people overcome the consequences of floods and storms, while maintaining patrols, clearing border lines and landmarks, and firmly maintaining the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.

Tri Le Border Guard Station is stationed in Lien Hop village, Tri Le commune, and is assigned to manage and protect 18.53 km of border line, with 8 border markers (from marker 373 to marker 380). The large area, rugged terrain, harsh climate, especially during the rainy and stormy season, make the task of patrolling and checking border markers even more difficult. Photo: Tien Dong

After more than 2 hours of marching by motorbike on a road cut off by floodwaters, we reached the border area, left our motorbikes behind and continued walking to the border marker. Photo: Tien Dong

The first approach point is landmark 376, a small landmark located on the Vietnam - Laos border. The Vietnamese side belongs to Huoi Moi village, Tri Le commune, and the other side of the border is Den Din village, Cum Phan Thoong, Muong Quan district, Hua Phan province. After the prolonged rains and storms, not only were the roads damaged by landslides, the road leading to the landmark was also covered with thick reeds, making it difficult for the working group to move. In Huoi Moi village, people come to work on their fields quite close to the border area, so the road leading to the landmark has to cross and cut through many fences protecting the fields of the people. Photo: Tien Dong

Setting foot on the border marker area, the Border Guard officers and soldiers did not immediately start clearing the area but solemnly saluted the marker. For each Border Guard officer and soldier and local people, this was not just a routine ritual, but the most sacred moment. A moment reminding that each border line and each marker is the blood and bones of many generations of ancestors and must be protected with all loyalty and responsibility. Photo: Tien Dong

The working group started clearing the area around landmark 376. Around the foot of landmark 376, the officers and soldiers carefully cleared the dense grass and vines. Photo: Tien Dong

After prolonged storms, the trees along the border and around the border marker area grew wildly, and tangled vines covered the path, obscuring both the border and the foot of the border marker. This forced the working group to clear the bushes and cut down tree branches to clear the border. This work was not only to clean the path but also to ensure that the border marker area and the border were always clean and clear. Photo: Tien Dong

After a period of clearing, the area around the landmark became beautiful, clean, and stood out among the green of the mountains and forests. Photo: Tien Dong

A special member of the working group is Mr. Xong Xua Ly, over 80 years old, living in Huoi Moi village. His field is located near landmark 376. Despite his old age, he is still regularly present during border clearance operations, taking care of the landmark with officers and soldiers of Tri Le Border Guard Station at Huoi Moi station. Despite his old age, Mr. Ly's steps are still nimble, his strong arms swinging the knife to cut through the dense tree branches blocking the way. Photo: Tien Dong

When asked about his feelings after each time participating in protecting and cleaning the border and landmarks, Mr. Ly just laughed out loud - "My whole life has been attached to this land, to each border and landmark. Taking care of the border and landmarks with the Border Guard is a sacred duty, as long as I am healthy, I will continue to participate." His attachment, responsibility and affection make the officers and soldiers of Tri Le Border Guard Station very respectful. They call him by the affectionate name "Dad Ly". Generations of soldiers come and go over time, but he is still there, like a "living landmark" between the border. Photo: Tien Dong

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ho Thanh Quang - Political Commissar of Tri Le Border Guard Station: "Despite the complicated developments of natural disasters, officers and soldiers of the unit still maintain and coordinate patrols to protect the border and border markers from marker 373 to marker 380 regularly, to check the situation of landslides, clear trees, ensure the markers and border are clean and clear". In the photo, a moment of rest of the working group after a hard day's work. After completing the clearing of marker 376 and the border at both ends of the marker. In the coming time, officers and soldiers of Tri Le Border Guard Station will continue to coordinate with local forces to clear markers and other border sections managed by the unit.
