Selling more than 2 ounces of super profitable stuff, 'profit' 20 years in prison

On May 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Huu Hung (born 1970), residing in Dong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.

According to the investigation agency's documents, during a trip, Nguyen Huu Hung met a man named Trung. This man invited him to visit Que Phong district, Hung agreed. There, when he saw Trung asking his friend to buy drugs for his own use, Hung immediately asked to buy the drug and then negotiated the price.

On November 13, 2020, a man called Hung, introducing himself as being from Phu Yen, to order drugs. Four days later, this man went to Dien Chau intersection to meet Hung to discuss the purchase and sale. After Hung quoted a price of 5.5 million VND per package, this customer ordered 100 packages. However, because Hung was afraid of not having enough "goods" and not having enough capital, the two parties agreed to buy and sell 10 packages of pink phien.

To have goods to sell to customers, Nguyen Huu Hung contacted a previous acquaintance and bought 10 packages of pink phien for 18 million VND.

On the way back, Hung took a package of drugs he had bought in advance, hid it on the side of the road, and brought it to a motel in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau district to deliver to a guest. He was arrested by the anti-drug task force No. 2, Coast Guard Command, with more than 210 grams of drugs.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant said that he bought and sold drugs because of greed. If the deal had been successful, the defendant would have pocketed about 37 million VND.

For the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking", the People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Huu Hung to 20 years in prison.
