(Baonghean.vn) - Tan confessed that he had congenital anemia so he sold drugs to make a profit to cure his illness. Notably, Tan had just been released from prison for drug-related crimes.

On May 8, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Luong Van Tan (born 1997), residing in Chau Phong commune, Quy Chau district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

In 2017, Luong Van Tan was sentenced by the People's Court of Quy Chau district to 2 years and 6 months in prison for "Illegal possession of narcotics". In December 2019, Tan completed his sentence.

Not long after reintegrating into the community, Tan continued to reoffend. According to the investigation agency's documents, on February 18, 2020, after being ordered drugs by someone, Tan went to Tri Le commune (Que Phong district) to buy "goods" from a man named May for 16 million VND.

After that, Tan brought it home to store for later use and resale. On February 20, after receiving a customer's order, Tan took his mother's motorbike to deliver the drugs. When this young man arrived at Chau Cuong commune (Quy Hop district), he was arrested by the authorities, along with evidence of more than 34 grams.

In court, Tan confessed that he had congenital anemia and had just been released from prison without a stable job, so he reoffended. Tan confessed that if this "deal" was successful, he would profit 11 million VND.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant had just been released from prison for a drug-related crime but still re-offended, demonstrating contempt for the law. Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Luong Van Tan to 15 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
