According to the AP news agency, speaking at a campaign rally for the Republican Party in San Marcos, Texas yesterday, George P. Bush, son of Jeb Bush and grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, both his grandfather and uncle George W. Bush, may vote for Mrs. Clinton on November 8. George P. Bush added that he may be the only person in his family who supports Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
However, in an interview with AP, George P. Bush retracted the above comment. “I don’t know how they’re going to vote. I’m really just guessing,” he said.
Previously, in September, former President George HW Bush discreetly admitted that he supported Mrs. Clinton. Although to date, neither of the two former Republican presidents of the Bush family has publicly declared their support for Mrs. Clinton, their silence on candidate Donald Trump partly shows that.
Earlier this October, Barbara Bush, daughter of former US President George W. Bush, also attended a fundraiser in Paris to support Clinton's campaign. Former First Lady Laura Bush also hinted that she might vote for Clinton.
The move by a traditionally Republican family to support the Democratic candidate could be a major blow to Mr. Trump’s campaign. Results from a poll released by Reuters/Ipsos on October 26 also showed that instead of choosing billionaire Donald Trump, many members of the Republican Party believe that Mrs. Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate, will win this year’s race to the White House.
