Localities need to soon develop winter-spring crop production plans.
(Baonghean.vn) - With the forecast of many severe cold spells, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh requested localities to soon develop specific production plans.
This morning (November 9), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held an online conference to evaluate production results in 2021 and deploy winter-spring crop production in the northern provinces in 2021-2022. Comrade Le Quoc Doanh - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development chaired the conference.
Nghe An participated in the conference chaired by Ms. Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that: Despite taking place in unusual weather conditions, the 2020-2021 winter-spring crop production in the whole North still achieved high results. The total rice area reached 1.087 million hectares, the yield was 64.2 quintals/ha, an increase of 1.6 quintals/ha compared to the previous spring crop; the output reached 6.983 million tons.
With production forecast to take place in quite complicated weather conditions, with many severe cold spells, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh stated at the conference: In order to achieve high results in winter-spring crop production, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requires localities to soon develop specific production plans; the variety structure must be suitable to the weather conditions as well as forecast market demand.

In particular, strictly follow the planting schedule to avoid adverse weather effects; proactively prevent pests and diseases, and use irrigation water economically.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized: Along with preparations for spring crop production, localities also need to continue focusing on planting and caring for winter vegetables, in order to ensure targets and plans set out, meeting consumption needs during the Lunar New Year.

Up to now, Nghe An has planted about 26,000 ha/35,000 ha of winter crops, reaching 73% of the plan and currently localities are continuing to plant winter crops such as corn, potatoes, and various vegetables on fertile land; for double-rice land, farmers are advised to produce short-term vegetables or corn as green feed for livestock to free up land for spring crop production in time.
To increase the value of winter crop production, in addition to the support policy of the Central Government, the Provincial People's Committee has allocated 2.5 billion VND from the budget to support the development of corn and vegetable areas on 2-rice and potato land with linkages and product consumption; at the same time, increasing the application of scientific and technological advances in production.
