(Baonghean.vn) - Scientists and history teachers in Nghe An affirm: History must be an independent subject.

On the afternoon of November 20, the Center for Social Sciences and Humanities - Department of Science and Technology of the province organized a discussion with the topic "Should or should not integrate History subject".

Representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Department of Education and Training, along with many experts, professors, associate professors, doctors, lecturers and history teachers in the province attended.

The policy of integrating History subject was proposed by the Ministry of Education and Training in the Draft of the General Education Program. In which, it is expected to integrate History subject with Ethics - Citizenship and National Defense - Security subjects into a new subject "Citizens with the Fatherland". However, after the draft was released, it received many mixed opinions.

Đồng chí Bùi Đình Sâm, Phó Trưởng ban Tuyên giáo phát biểu tại buổi tọa đàm
Comrade Bui Dinh Sam, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, spoke at the seminar.

At the seminar, delegates frankly analyzed and dissected the issue. Many opinions focused on issues such as: whether or not to integrate History, the role of History in protecting national sovereignty in general and building national consciousness, citizens' responsibility towards the country; solutions to innovate chapters, teaching and learning methods so that History remains an independent subject and promotes its role and position in the education system.

Opinions are unanimous that History should be an independent subject.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Cong Khanh, Former Head of the History Department of Vinh University, History is the foundation subject of Social Sciences and Humanities, the most important basis for equipping a system of knowledge about the origin of the nation; about the achievements in building and defending the country... from which to build the qualities and character of the Vietnamese people. If History, especially national history, is eliminated from general education, it will leave many unpredictable consequences.

Besides, many opinions also turn the issue around when saying: Currently, History subject still has many limitations, leading to students lacking interest in learning.

According to Dr. Nguyen Dang Bang, Faculty of Economics, Vinh University: To increase interest in History, it is necessary to teach it truthfully. It is necessary to write history textbooks according to new knowledge and skills standards. Opinions also expressed concern that if integrated teaching is organized, the current teaching staff will not be able to meet the requirements.
