According to him, the first floating nuclear power plant (PEB) named after "Academician Lomonosov", coming from the Baltic plant and anchored in Murmansk, where it will later be loaded with nuclear fuel, is a unique development of Russian scientists, which has no analogues in the world.
“This is the first version of a medium-power mobile nuclear power source, for which we expect quite high market demand in the coming years. All island countries have shown interest, where for some reason it is not possible to build a powerful electricity transmission infrastructure,” Likhachev said.
In particular, according to Mr. Likhachev, these countries include the Philippines, Indonesia and a number of other countries in Southeast Asia. In addition, as the head of the corporation noted, coastal, oceanic and bay countries are also interested in the product, since on the basis of this development it is possible to build large-capacity desalination plants.
“Therefore, we are planning to soon move to negotiations on specific supplies, and in case of achieving good results, to make large orders at Russian shipbuilding industry enterprises,” Likhachev said.
PEB is designed to operate in the Arctic and Far East, the main goal — to supply energy to remote industrial enterprises, port cities, as well as oil and gas rigs located in the open sea.
