Universities in Nghe An open many new training majors to 'attract' students

Many new industries approach labor market needs

Logistics and Supply Chain Management is one of the new majors that Nghe An University of Economics has started enrolling in the 2024 enrollment season. Nationwide, there are currently nearly 80 universities training in this major, but in Nghe An, the University of Economics is the first.

In 2024, although the school only recruits 50 students, it is predicted that this will be one of the majors that receives much attention from 12th grade students.

Speaking more about this, Dr. Ho Thi Hien - Head of the Faculty of Economics, Nghe An University of Economics, said: This field of study focuses on exploiting basic scientific knowledge, basic knowledge and specialized knowledge related to the management of transportation services in the production and business process. Thereby, to ensure the flow of goods - from raw materials to products to consumers - is controlled and operated effectively, reducing costs, bringing maximum profits to businesses.

Before establishing this major, we surveyed businesses in the Southeast Economic Zone and industrial parks in the province and found that human resources for these industries were quite scarce. Therefore, students studying this major have many job opportunities after graduation.

Along with Logistics and Supply Chain Management, E-commerce is also a new major that is attracting Gen Z students (born in 2000).

According to the representative of the Faculty of Economics, in addition to the labor market survey, the opening of these additional majors is built on the basis of the cooperative relationship between the school and businesses. Therefore, during the study period at the school, students will be given the opportunity to study, practice and find jobs right at the units where they are interning. Businesses will also participate in the teaching process to improve training efficiency, close to reality.

"For the e-commerce industry, we have connected with an e-commerce training academy for businesses in Hanoi. In the coming time, the academy will join us in the process of training students to be able to catch up with the development trend of e-commerce in the country and in the world. During the training process, if the students meet the requirements, the academy will recruit to supply businesses" - Dr. Ho Thi Hien added.

At Vinh University, to meet the urgent need for human resources for the education sector to implement the new general education program, this year's enrollment season, the school began enrolling students in the Natural Science Pedagogy and History - Geography Pedagogy majors.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the replacement of textbooks according to the new curriculum has been implemented for grades 6, 7, and 8 nationwide. However, in Nghe An and many other provinces and cities, the arrangement of teachers for integrated subjects is facing many difficulties.

Due to the lack of teachers to train integrated subjects, in recent years, the situation of either having to arrange for 2-3 teachers to teach an integrated subject; or having one teacher take on the role of "2 in 1" or "3 in 1" has become common in many schools, affecting the quality of training.

In the current context, opening new majors is urgent to meet the demand for teachers for schools.

For candidates, choosing this major will open up many new career opportunities for them after graduation because not only is there a shortage of teachers at the present time, but the size of schools in the provinces will also increase rapidly in the next few years.

In addition to these majors, this year Vinh University will open other new majors such as Educational Psychology, Architecture, International Studies, Plant Science, and Veterinary Medicine.

The new occupations are all those with high labor demand in industrial parks and enterprises.

Multiple admission methods

This year's enrollment season, Nghe An University of Economics opened many new majors and increased its enrollment quota to 1,900 students, an increase of more than 400 compared to 2023 and the highest in more than 10 years. Previously, to be proactive in building training majors and enrollment quotas, the school was required to meet the standards for quality assessment of educational institutions and training program accreditation.

Through the discussion, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu - Principal of the school said: In the current context, enrollment is considered a matter of survival for universities and for universities in localities like ours, this is a huge challenge.

Therefore, in order to meet enrollment targets, schools are forced to innovate, change programs and training methods, and pay attention to working with businesses to arrange for students to practice, intern, gain real-life experience, and find jobs.

The school also has many policies in enrollment such as granting full and partial scholarships (tuition support for students with high scores), extending the enrollment period starting from January, using many admission methods at the same time and providing enrollment counseling to each high school in the province.

Forecasting this year's enrollment, Dr. Hoang Vinh Phu - Head of Training Department - Vinh University also said: In 2024, opportunities will be expanded for candidates when our school has up to 6 different enrollment methods. Currently, with the method of reviewing academic records, direct admission for talented students, students with English and international certificates, the school has received nearly 3,000 applications.

The number of applications based on academic records is also the majority at Vinh University of Technical Education. In addition, this year, the school also implements the admission method based on the results of the competency assessment test, the thinking assessment test of Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The school's admission subject combinations are also quite diverse, such as the A00, A01, B00, D01 block combinations...

With the form of online admission, early admission and simultaneous use of many different admission methods, at this time many candidates have also received university admission papers from many universities across the country.
