At the Mang Thit High School auditorium, hundreds of students eagerly attended the experiential learning session of the social literature and argumentation class, because they would interact with everyday characters on the topic "Life and the desire to live" organized by Mr. The.

Mr. The opened the exchange: “To live is to have determination, aspiration and purpose in life, only then will life be joyful and meaningful. That is the reason why today I invited a character to come here to exchange with us. His name is Le Thanh Hoang, 33 years old. At the age of 10, he suffered from spinal cord atrophy, his body shrank, since then he has been sitting in a wheelchair every day selling lottery tickets to support his elderly parents without ever complaining about life...”.

Teacher The gave the microphone to his students. The students competed to ask questions: "When you were looked at with pity, were you hurt? How did you overcome that? What is your concept of life values?"... Just like that, the questions delved into the characters' thoughts, and the simple answers made that exchange day leave many impressions in the students' hearts...

At the end of the exchange, Mr. The gave his students some social argumentative essay topics revolving around what they discussed with the character...

Invite characters to the lecture

The idea of inviting a real character to give students an environment to practice communication has been on Mr. The's mind for a long time. Because according to him, if education wants to be highly effective, it must convey real emotions to students, otherwise, if you just talk about it, they will easily forget.

Teacher The confided: “If you can meet and exchange with role models around you, then you will not only learn theory but also practice experience. And knowledge formed from reality will make learning more effective.”

The teacher's first guest was the amputee student Ngo Thai Hoang Em, a former student of the school, on the occasion of Em's return to give gifts to the poor and studious students of the school. Thanks to his spirit of overcoming difficulties, Em patiently practiced turning his legs into arms to support himself and help others when he became a programmer at a company in Saigon.

Teacher The invited me to class to participate in the lecture "Interview and answer interview" of the 11th grade literature program.

Teacher The confided: “In that lesson, I included social discussion issues: determination, faith, compassion... The whole class enthusiastically entered the lesson without realizing it when they participated in asking a series of interview questions for the characters. That time, the students did the test more deeply and richly. The results were beyond expectations...”.

From the success of that first real-life lesson, Mr. The boldly organized lessons with real characters such as inviting a character in a wheelchair who sells lottery tickets to earn money to support his parents, Mr. Le Thanh Hoang; an 11th grade student named Nguyen Ngoc Thanh whose circumstances were pitiful: her mother had a serious illness, her father left her when she was young, Thanh herself had to take care of her mother and weave beads to earn a living but achieved quite good academic results...

Enter the hearts of students

Thanh Truc, grade 12, confided: “The practical learning method above helps us grasp the lesson right in class instead of memorizing it. If we only learn theory, only analyze data and practice in reference form, it will be easy to forget.”

Ngoc Thu, grade 12, shared: “The teacher usually gives the class 6-7 questions after class. Students can choose whichever question they like, but must do at least 2 questions. We can do the test freely according to our feelings because the teacher respects each student's own thoughts. If we make a mistake, the teacher will correct it. The teaching method requires practicality and thinking that is appropriate to the question-setting trend of the two-in-one exam that we will take soon...”.

Mr. The's unique teaching style has touched the hearts of his students with different emotions. For Tu Tram, grade 11, the most touching image that she always remembers is Mr. Em writing with his feet to his friends: "Wishing you all good studies."

Ngoc Thu likes the life perspective of the character Le Thanh Hoang: "I feel my life has meaning when I sell lottery tickets every day to earn money to support my parents...".

Particularly, Ngan Binh, grade 10, admires the character Ngoc Thanh: "Despite such difficult circumstances, Thanh is still the pillar of the family, knitting beads, taking care of her mother, and still studying well. Thanh's example of overcoming difficulties is a motivation for me to strive...".

Encourage such teaching

Principal Vo Van Bon shared: “Mr. The is a good teacher. His boldness in innovating teaching methods, interviewing real people and real events, and avoiding teaching with pure knowledge are some of his unique teaching methods. We encourage this way of teaching, especially in the school’s extracurricular hours.

Finding typical characters who are suitable for the lecture topic and then inviting them to interact with students is also very elaborate. Teacher The researched very carefully by meeting with local authorities, verifying their ethics, asking neighbors about the characters' lifestyle. He himself followed the characters for many days to observe and approach them.

Mr. The confided: “When teaching such experiential lessons, I want to convey the message: Every person we meet on the road can teach us lessons about life. The knowledge from this reality is the life that you will have to integrate into after graduating. I hope that you will continue to write good things for this life, so that love continues to love, so that faith can give wings to faith even though life still has many troubles...”.
