Coming to the family of Mr. Lo Van Mao, residing in Xieng Huong village, Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong), we saw a thin, dark-skinned man staring blankly at the house buried in rocks and soil. Mr. Mao sadly said: "Before, my whole family had to live in a rickety house, and when it rained, water leaked everywhere. After decades of hard work as a construction worker, I saved a little money and borrowed more to build a solid house so that my family could have a stable place to shelter from the sun and rain. After many months of construction, on September 15, my family held a housewarming party. After only 6 days of living there, on the afternoon of September 21, after days of heavy rain, hundreds of cubic meters of rocks and soil from the mountain behind the house collapsed, burying the house." It is known that the total cost of building the house was nearly 1 billion VND, of which, the money borrowed from the bank and relatives was more than 400 million VND. Now, the entire business is considered a total loss, currently my family has to live with relatives. Photo: Dinh Tuan

The structure of the house was almost completely destroyed, beyond repair. “The family has 3 children, the 2 older children have also gone to work in the North. Seeing that my children were also working, at the beginning of the year I decided to boldly borrow more than 400 million VND to build a house, but unexpectedly the house collapsed as soon as it was built,” said Mr. Lo Van Mao. Nearly a week has passed, but Mr. Mao and his wife are still in shock when the house that they worked hard to save and save for many years was buried by rocks and soil in an instant. Not only Mr. Mao's house, but also Mr. Luong Van Son's house right next door was also severely damaged. The greatest wish of Mr. Mao's family and Mr. Son's family is to receive attention, support, and resettlement arrangements from superiors elsewhere so that they can live safely. Photo: Dinh Tuan
