The more addicted to Facebook, the lonelier people are
Forbes cited a recent study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine that found that the more people use social networks like Facebook and Twitter, the more socially isolated they feel.
This information may surprise many people, but previous studies have come to similar conclusions. Accordingly, researchers found that the amount of time people spend on social networks is related to feelings of hopelessness, jealousy, low self-esteem and inferiority.

You will feel socially isolated if you use Facebook a lot. |
People who spent more time on social media (more than 2 hours a day) felt more socially isolated than those who used social media for less than 30 minutes a day. People who used social media 58 or more times a week felt more socially isolated than those who used social media less than 9 times a week.
The new study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, was conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, with the participation of adults between the ages of 19 and 32. They were asked about the time and frequency of using social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, Tumblr, Pinterest, Vine and LinkedIn...
The researchers suggested several reasons for the link. One is that spending more time on social media reduces the time we spend talking to other people in the real world. When we see other people’s happy posts, we often compare ourselves and sometimes feel jealous or insecure. Social media cannot reflect the real world.
In addition, Elizabeth Miller, an author of the new study, said that the direction of the relationship is still unclear. “We don’t know which is the cause and which is the effect, the time spent on social media or the feeling of social isolation,” she said. “It’s possible that people feel socially isolated in the first place, which is why they turn to social media. Or it’s possible that they use social media more and feel isolated. Or it could be a combination of both. But even if social isolation is the cause, using social media doesn’t reduce it.”
In fact, many people often use social media because they think it will make them feel better, but in reality, the opposite is true, using social media more will make you feel worse. Doing so will cause you to fall into a vicious circle.
