The North-South Expressway through Nghe An will have 2 tunnels through mountains and 6 modern intersections.

The Nghi Son - Dien Chau section investment project under the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South East route, phase 2017 - 2020, with a total length of 50 km, starting from Tan Truong commune, Tinh Gia district (Thanh Hoa) to Dien Cat commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An), will have the 450m long Truong Vinh tunnel cutting through Mong Ga mountain.

Truong Vinh Tunnel connects Truong Lam Commune, Tinh Gia District (Thanh Hoa) and Quynh Vinh Commune, Hoang Mai Town (Nghe An). The tunnel is designed to be permanent, with a tunnel shell made of concrete and reinforced concrete.

The Nghi Son - Dien Chau section will also have 3 complete intersections, including: Quynh Vinh intersection with National Highway 48D, Quynh My intersection with National Highway 48B and Dien Cat intersection with National Highway 7. All 3 intersections are designed in the style of Trumpet intersections.

The Dien Chau - Bai Vot section investment project belongs to the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South East route, phase 2017 - 2020, with a total length of 49.3 km from Dien Cat commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) to Duc Thinh commune, Duc Tho district (Ha Tinh).

On this route, there will be a 1,280 m long Than Vu tunnel, going through Than Vu mountain to connect Dien Phu commune, Dien Chau district and Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, both in Nghe An province.

The Dien Chau - Bai Vot section also has 3 complete interchanges, including the interchange with N5 Road (trumpet interchange), the interchange with National Highway 46 and the interchange with National Highway 8A (double trumpet interchange).

In addition, these highways also have underpasses for people. The Nghi Son - Dien Chau section will have 60 reinforced concrete underpasses combined with 13 underpasses under the main bridge; the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section will also have 29 reinforced concrete underpasses built, combined with underpasses under the main bridge. This system ensures the travel needs of people on both sides of the highway.

The investor also arranged a system of feeder roads on the route with a total length of about 85.3 km, of which the Nghi Son - Dien Chau section is 43.8 km long, and the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section is 41.5 km long.
