6-year-old boy 'starts' business to earn money to buy bicycle
Starting with three flavors of shaved ice cream, his shop now has 21 different flavors.
All 6-year-old Emmett wanted was a bicycle, but his father didn't give in to this request easily. Instead, he told his son that he needed to earn the money to buy one himself.
"He had some old toys and stuffed animals and he sold them. He made $70 that day. The next day, we went through Sam's Club and saw a shaved ice machine, and he asked me if he could have that instead of a bike and start his own business and make money," Emmett's father, Jared, said.

After some discussion, Emmett’s parents agreed to support the “business,” but on one condition: He had to sell ice cream for at least an hour every Saturday. Emmett brought a bag of ice and three flavors when he started the business. “The first time, he made $12, then $17, then $25, and around that amount,” Jared said.
"He's responsible for keeping track of his ingredients and knowing when to buy more, spending money on upcoming flavors, and paying us half the price of the ice cream maker plus 'tax,'" the stern father added. He also revealed that Emmett was planning to save money for college, unaware that the 'tax' money was being diverted into his savings account by his parents.

Emmett's father said toBoredPanda"We want our son to pursue his passion in the future. Our only expectation for him is to grow up to be a good person who contributes to society. Although he now enjoys selling shaved ice cream, he always tells us that he wants to be a librarian and a karate instructor. He loves reading and has a purple belt in karate, so we have faith that he is passionate about those things."
Emmett also dreams of becoming a karate instructor. |
