Hanoi Police Club successfully recruited coach Gong Oh-kyun
On the afternoon of October 31, Hanoi Police Club announced that it had reached an agreement and officially signed a contract with coach Gong Oh-kyun as head coach.
Accordingly, the former head coach of the Vietnam U23 team will lead the Hanoi Police with a 2-year contract along with an agreement to bring an assistant. The Korean coach is tasked with helping the Hanoi Police defend the championship in the 2023-2024 season.
Coach Gong Oh-kyun took over as head coach of the Vietnam U23 team after the 31st SEA Games, replacing coach Park Hang Seo. In just a short time working, the 48-year-old coach built a new and eye-catching playing style for the Vietnam U23 team at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship finals.
At this tournament, coach Gong Oh-kyun and his students reached the quarter-finals. The way U23 Vietnam played at that time was much more exciting than when led by his predecessor Park Hang Seo at the 31st SEA Games.

Leading the Hanoi Police Club, coach Gong Oh-kyun will work with many quality players and those on the Vietnam national team list such as: Quang Hai, Van Thanh, Tan Tai, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Bui Tien Dung, Phan Van Duc, along with foreign player Gieovane and Vietnamese-American goalkeeper Filip Nguyen.
A month ago, Hanoi FC was the team leading the negotiations with Mr. Gong. The capital team even sought a Korean interpreter. Without the services of coach Gong Oh-kyun, Hanoi FC unexpectedly appointed Mr. Dinh The Nam as interim head coach. Mr. Dinh The Nam's task is to quickly get the team out of the crisis with a series of 4 consecutive losses in all competitions.
In the 2 rounds of the new season, Hanoi Police had a draw against Quy Nhon Binh Dinh and a win against Hoang Anh Gia Lai right at Pleiku Stadium. According to the schedule for the next round, Hanoi Police will face Hanoi FC - the team that just suffered a heavy defeat against Hai Phong in the 2nd round right at Hang Day Stadium.
In round 3 of V-League, Hanoi FC will face Hanoi Police Club in the capital derby.
