The overpass is empty, students are rushing to cross the street

(Baonghean.vn) - Completed at the end of October 2016, the pedestrian overpass on Le Duan Street, Vinh City, seems to have no one using it.Meanwhile, below the bridge, students were bustling to cross the street one after another.

The overpass was deserted.

With a length of 36.3m, a width of 2.4m, and made of precast steel beams, the overpass was built to serve the needs of pedestrians, reduce traffic congestion at Vinh University intersection during rush hour, and eliminate black spots of traffic accidents.

However, very few Vinh University students use the overpass, most of them gather in groups and "cross" the road as if there was no overpass, sometimes even "cutting across" motorbikes. The function of the overpass for many students seems to be just a place to... take pictures!

Most students do not use the overpass because of poor traffic awareness. In addition, when students violate the law, they are not reminded or punished, so this situation continues every day.

At the end of school, students rushed to "cross" the street while the overpass was empty.

Discussing this issue with students, Ho Thi Duyen, class K56B3 - Accounting, Vinh University shared: "Going on the overpass is safe but it is tiring and time-consuming, while taking a shortcut across the road is dangerous but fast. Sometimes it is just a habit."

Students go up the overpass mainly to take pictures.

Phan Thi Hoa, a student of K55B1 - Investment Economics, Vinh University, said: "I also occasionally go on the overpass. It takes 2 minutes to go on the overpass, while taking a shortcut across the road only takes a few dozen seconds. Which way to choose depends on my free time."

Students crossing the street carelessly will cause traffic congestion here, potentially causing traffic accidents.
