Caring for and supporting 1 million poor and disadvantaged people during Tet

President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa said that after the 11th Congress of the Society for the 2022-2027 term held last August, the Society is implementing the Congress Resolution at all levels of the Society in 63 provinces and cities; mobilizing social resources to sponsor the Lao Red Cross Central Committee with 300,000 energy-saving stoves and 100,000 free water filters for the poor, worth 180 billion VND; supporting people affected by recent storms and floods in the Central provinces with a total budget of over 45 billion VND.

Recently, the Association successfully organized the "Humanitarian Power" Program in 2022, and launched the "Humanitarian Tet" Movement and the Texting Program to support the "Humanitarian Tet" movement. During the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao 2023, the entire Association strives to care for and support 1 million poor people, people in difficult circumstances, and vulnerable people with a total value of activities reaching 600 billion VND.

The Association's leaders also said that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies highly appreciated the attention of the Party and State to the activities of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. This created favorable conditions for the Vietnam Red Cross Society to host the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent next year.

At the meeting, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the Vietnam Red Cross Society for quickly implementing its tasks with a high sense of responsibility after the 11th Congress, and organizing a number of specific and practical activities.

The President requested the Association to consolidate its operating apparatus from the central to the grassroots level, promote the Association's strength; propose policies, regimes, and means, including the mechanism of socializing resources to serve the Association's activities more effectively, so that Association officials can work with peace of mind. Financial management must be strict, transparent, methodical, and in accordance with legal regulations, without allowing any errors.

In particular, the Central Committee and all levels of the Association must build a united collective with high morale and responsibility in its activities. The Association and its officials must be sensitive and pioneers in humanitarian activities; have the capacity to gather and mobilize social resources to support people in difficult circumstances and the disadvantaged in society. The President requested ministries, branches and localities to pay attention to the Association's humanitarian activities.

Appreciating the Red Cross Society for implementing the "Humanitarian Tet" movement on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted that there is not much time left until the Lunar New Year, the Society has a specific program and implementation plan, ensuring support from ministries, branches and localities at all levels, while mobilizing social resources to take care of the Tet holiday for the poor and people in difficult circumstances.

Regarding the organization of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference, the President requested the Association to carefully prepare the program and content, thereby promoting the international position of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; at the same time, mobilizing international resources to support the Vietnam Red Cross Society in domestic humanitarian activities, serving the project activities on environment, climate change, and livelihoods for the poor and disadvantaged that the Association is mobilizing resources to implement.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the organization of the Conference of Honorary Presidents of the Red Cross at the provincial/municipal level nationwide in November every year on the occasion of the Humanitarian Strength Program.
