Feeding fish garlic can cure 2 diseases and earn hundreds of millions of dong.

After many failed attempts at raising fish on the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir, Mr. Dinh Van Linh in Trang hamlet, Binh Thanh commune, Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province came up with a unique way to treat fish diseases with garlic.

Every month he feeds the fish garlic twice, the fish are cured and grow quickly. This disease prevention method, applied by Mr. Linh for 3 years now, is very effective.

Born and raised in a mountainous village, Linh, like many other families, lived mainly on farming. Over the years, hunger and poverty continued to haunt the mountainous village. In 2014, he and a few households in the village borrowed money to invest in cage fish farming.

Mr. Linh often feeds his fish garlic to prevent scabies and intestinal diseases.

In addition to materials such as bamboo, he spent more than 10 million to buy grass carp and black carp breeds and nets to raise 2 cages. After a few months of good care, the fish grew rapidly. Around the beginning of May, when the first rains of the season fell, water from the streams flowed into the river. The water was dirty and full of impurities, so all the fish in his cages died.

Mr. Linh's special method of treating fish diseases with garlic has helped him succeed in raising fish in cages on the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir.

Not discouraged, the following year he continued to borrow money and build more cages at a cost of more than 30 million VND. Just like the previous year, after a few months of hard work taking care of the fish, when it was time to harvest, the fish died and floated white on the cage. Many other households' fish cages also died. After taking the time to investigate, Mr. Linh discovered that only households with fish cages near the shore had fish that died, while many households raised fish far from shore and the fish were not affected.

In 2016, he borrowed more capital to continue investing in raising 10 cages and moved the cages far from shore. He released grass carp, catfish, and catfish... Although the daily care was hard, such as transporting fish food and looking after and protecting them, the fish lived well. At the end of that year, his fish cages yielded nearly a hundred million VND. In the past two years, he continued to borrow capital from the bank to invest in 20 more fish cages. From bamboo and reed cages, he boldly invested in iron cages. Every year, he exports more than 4 tons of commercial fish to the market, earning his family several hundred million VND.

One of the biggest difficulties in raising fish in cages is that the water source in the rainy season often shocks the fish. In addition, many diseases are caused by parasites. Raising fish in ponds and lakes can easily prevent diseases by disinfecting the water. However, with a large water surface like a lake, this method cannot be applied. According to the documents, newspapers and experience in raising fish that he learned, feeding the fish garlic is the best method.

If you want fish to eat garlic, you have to starve them for a few days. Then crush the garlic and put it in the cage. The fish will not get parasitic diseases or intestinal diseases. “I have been using this disease prevention method for 3 years now and it is very effective. Compared to cages that do not feed garlic, fish in cages that eat garlic are healthy and grow quickly. Another important thing is that this method is safe for consumers, even if they are fed, they can still be sold,” said Mr. Linh.
