The victim was identified as Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong L. (born in 1961, residing in Tan Hung commune, Cai Be district). Ms. L. is currently being treated at Cai Be General Hospital with many burns on her face, neck and back. Before that, in the early morning of August 21, after her husband got drunk with friends the previous afternoon, Mr. Tran Van Ro (born in 1962 - Mrs. L.'s husband) walked home but did not go into the house but slept right in front of the neighbor's yard, and was discovered by people and brought home.

The next morning, when he woke up, he saw Mrs. L. boiling water in the kitchen. His wife nagged him about not knowing how to leave his house after drinking, so Mr. Ro got angry. After a few words of reproach and being stopped by his family, he thought everything had calmed down.

However, the 54-year-old husband suddenly picked up the boiling water. Then he jumped forward, grabbed his wife's hair, pushed her to the ground, and poured the water directly into her left ear with his right hand. The water spilled onto Mrs. L's neck, face, and back, causing severe burns and she was taken to the hospital by her relatives.

Many locals said that Mr. Ro often got drunk and often beat his wife and children. On the same day, Colonel Le Hoang Tien, head of Cai Be district police, confirmed that he had invited Mr. Ro to give a statement, where Mr. Ro admitted his actions.
