(Baonghean.vn) - This winter, the weather has been unusual, livestock and poultry diseases are likely to break out, authorities and livestock farmers in Quynh Luu district are proactively preventing diseases for livestock.

In the previous batch, due to the unsecured source of breeds, nearly 2,000 chickens and ducks of Ms. Tran Thi Loan in hamlet 11, Quynh Tan commune (Quynh Luu) had to be destroyed due to the A/H5N6 flu epidemic.

15 days ago, Ms. Loan continued to invest in buying chicken and duck breeds to restore her flock. This time, the origin of the breeds was verified, she declared it to the local authorities, and at the same time organized timely vaccination for the poultry flock.

When importing more than 1,000 ducks to restore the flock, Ms. Loan proactively declared it to the local authorities.

To prevent diseases for the pig farm, Mr. Nang Minh's family in Quyet Thang hamlet, Quynh Bang commune organizes the sprinkling of lime powder, regularly sprays disinfectants and anti-epidemic drugs around the barn. He proactively buys drugs from trusted addresses.

His family farm is also regularly instructed by professional agencies on how to identify quality veterinary drugs and how to manage, transport, and use them properly.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - Vice Chairman of Quynh Tan Commune People's Committee said: Currently, the commune has 16 livestock and poultry farms; the total poultry herd is 118 thousand, 2,600 buffaloes and cows, and 7,200 pigs.

Every year, the commune has a policy of collecting disease prevention fees, 50 thousand VND per household. Part of this money is used to pay monthly allowances for 6 veterinarians (1 veterinarian receives an allowance of 700 thousand VND/month) and is used for propaganda and disease prevention when necessary. Every year, the rate of vaccinated livestock reaches over 70% of the total herd.

To prevent diseases for livestock in winter, Quynh Luu District Veterinary Station has just provided 70 liters of Benkocid chemicals to localities to spray on farms, livestock farms, stagnant water ponds, livestock markets, etc. At the same time, propaganda and mobilization work has been strengthened to vaccinate livestock and poultry. Up to now, the rate of livestock in the area vaccinated has reached over 70% of the total herd. This is a very important factor for localities to limit diseases in livestock herds.
