(Baonghean.vn) -Comrade Chu Huy Man - birth name Chu Van Dieu, was born on March 17, 1913 in Yen Luu commune, Yen Truong canton, Hung Nguyen district (now Hung Hoa commune, Vinh city, Nghe An province). Born and raised in a poor farming family, witnessing the misery and humiliation of the people who lost their country, he soon became enlightened about the revolution.

He joined the revolution in 1929, joined the Party in 1930 and grew up during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of 1930 - 1931. In 1935, with a new name - Chu Huy Man (Chu Huy means bright, Man means jade), he left revolutionary activities and was imprisoned for many years in Vinh, Dac Lay and Dac To prisons. In 1943, he escaped safely with comrades Nguyen Duy Trinh, Ha The Hanh, Huynh Ngoc Hue to secretly operate and lead the people of Quang Nam province to seize power in the victorious August Revolution.

After the August Revolution, the French colonialists returned to invade our country. He joined the army and held the following positions: Political Commissar of Quang Nam Provincial Military Command; Chairman of the Military Committee of Zone C, including the four provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Quang Nam; Political Commissar of the Route 9 - Savannakhet Front; Head of the Party Inspection Committee, Party Committee member of the Viet Bac Military Region. From 1947 to 1949, he was the Regiment Commander and Party Committee Secretary of Regiments 72 (Cao Bang), 74 (Bac Can), then Political Commissar of Regiment 174 (Cao - Bac - Lang). On May 1, 1951, the 316th Division was established. He was transferred to be the Party Committee Secretary and Deputy Political Commissar, then Political Commissar of the Division, participating in the campaigns of the Midlands, Hoang Hoa Tham, Hoa Binh, Tay Bac, Thuong Laos, and then the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954.

The Geneva Agreement was signed, the North of our country was completely liberated, but the situation in Laos was difficult in terms of military. The friendly Party requested that our Party and Government send a delegation of military experts to help the friendly Party build the Pathet Lao liberation army, and help the forces of the two provinces of Sam Neua and Phongsaly regroup. The Party Central Committee and Uncle Ho decided to send comrade Chu Huy Man as Head of the delegation and Party Secretary of the Military Advisory Group to help the Lao Party and Ministry of National Defense.

Before leaving, comrade Chu Huy Man had the opportunity to meet President Ho at his residence and workplace. Uncle Ho kindly advised, "Helping friends is helping yourself. You need to remember the three essentials of the Lao revolution: long-term, arduous, self-reliance is the main thing, and in the end, it will definitely win." During his time working in Laos, he always remembered and followed Uncle Ho's advice.

After days of hard marching, Group 100 arrived at Na Meo village in Hua Phan province, Laos. After settling down, comrade Chu Huy Man held a meeting with the Party Committee of Group 100 to propose a leadership policy: to consolidate and develop the Party, strengthen the leadership of the other Party, and train and foster cadres.

In early December 1954, the Lao military-political conference was held in Cang That village. At the conference, comrade Kaysone Phomvihane presented a plan to build forces and basically agreed with our policy. After the conference, comrade Kaysone Phomvihane signed a decision to organize the entire Lao army, with a reasonable structure of a centralized army: three staff, political, and logistics agencies under the Ministry of National Defense, along with a system of cadres from units and localities, nine infantry battalions, one support battalion, one transport battalion, 12 independent companies, one Commadam military school, two provincial military agencies of Hua Phan and Phong Xa Ly.

During nearly 4 years working in Laos, comrade Chu Huy Man and the Vietnamese military expert delegation created conditions for the Lao revolutionary forces to develop in line with the movement of the three Indochinese countries. In May 1957, comrade Chu Huy Man was presented with a Wyler watch by President Ho Chi Minh with the brief words: "Uncle Ho gave you this watch for your achievements in helping the Lao revolutionary Party and people build armed forces in the resistance war against France."

After only 3 months of returning to the country, we received a notice from the Central Military Commission and the General Command to return to Laos immediately. At this time, the US and its lackeys in Laos were trying to sabotage peace and neutrality and had not given up their plot to turn Laos into a military base and a new type of colony. To help our friend take the initiative in this struggle, the Military Commission and the General Command sent comrade Chu Huy Man back to help Laos before the Neo-Lao Hac-Xat brought its forces back to Vientiane to form a coalition government.

In early September 1957, he returned to Hua Phan. Meeting with the leaders of the Lao Party and State, he immediately began preparations. With the efforts of his friends and the enthusiastic and effective assistance of the Vietnamese Military Advisory Group, the Pathet Lao armed forces made great strides and were ready to take on new tasks.

In 1960, comrade Chu Huy Man returned to Laos as the Head of Group 100, the Vietnamese Military Expert Group, alongside the Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Kaysone Phomvihane, and the Lao people and army, to achieve a brilliant victory at the Plain of Jars - Xieng Khouang.

After liberating the Plain of Jars, the Party's leaders took advantage of the opportunity and promptly built political bases throughout the country, achieving initial results.

Before comrade Chu Huy Man returned to Vietnam, Prime Minister Su-va-na Phu-ma decided to award him the Legion of Honor, a royal sword and held an intimate party. Prime Minister Phu-ma thanked Vietnam twice and thanked comrade Chu Huy Man.

With his great contributions to the Lao revolution, he has established a close relationship and close cooperation, and has been loved, trusted and greatly assisted by the leaders and commanders of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. He has built a very friendly, close and lasting relationship, truly considering each other "both comrades and brothers".
