Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee: Need to pay attention to supporting children in difficult circumstances

(Baonghean.vn) - Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Law Committee Le Thi Nga hopes that Nghe An province will continue to pay attention and support, gradually improving the material and spiritual life of children in difficult circumstances and without a place to rely on, so that the Social Work Center can truly be a trusted address for kind-hearted people.

On August 23, the National Assembly's monitoring delegation "Implementation of policies and laws on prevention and control of child abuse" led by comrade Le Thi Nga - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Judicial Committee conducted a survey at the Social Work Center (Do Luong).

The Social Work Center under the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs was established in 1997. The center has two facilities in Luu Son commune (Do Luong) and Hung Loc commune (Vinh city) and is currently caring for and managing 71 subjects, including 66 children and 5 elderly people.

Of which, 63 children and 3 elderly people are entitled to the 136 regime; 3 children and elderly people are cared for under humanitarian forms.

To manage children at the Center, professional staff and teachers regularly teach them self-protection skills, sex education, and abuse prevention.

At the meeting, the Social Work Center recommended that the province provide skills training for the unit's staff; support a free telephone hotline to facilitate those who need to connect to the hotline for consultation, information provision, and crime reporting; support computer equipment to store, exploit, and update information on nurturing and care activities at the unit.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Le Thi Nga highly appreciated the kindness and spirit of the staff working at the Care and Nurturing Center and mobilized social resources for the unit's operations.
