President holds talks with Lao General Secretary and President

This visit of the President will make an important contribution to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos to a new height.

This morning (June 12), President Tran Dai Quang and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation from our country, arrived in Vientiane, starting a state visit to the Lao PDR from June 12-14, 2016 at the invitation of General Secretary and President of the Lao PDR Bounnhang Volachith.

This is the first foreign visit of President Tran Dai Quang in his new position. The visit aims to further strengthen the traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two Parties and countries, and at the same time promote comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

President Tran Dai Quang and his wife arrived in Vientiane, beginning a state visit to the Lao PDR.

At exactly 9:00 a.m., the President's plane landed at Wattay International Airport. Welcoming the delegation at the airport were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Somdy Duangdy and his wife; Minister and Head of the Office of the Lao President Khammeung Phongthadi; Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khamphau Onthavan; Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane; Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung and his wife, along with many embassy staff and overseas Vietnamese living, working and studying in Laos.

After a solemn welcoming ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, at 10:35 this morning, President Tran Dai Quang and General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Volachith led high-ranking delegations from the two countries to hold talks.

General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Volachith warmly welcomed the state visit of President Tran Dai Quang, emphasizing that choosing Laos as the first country to visit after assuming the position of President demonstrated his respect and desire to further strengthen the special friendship and solidarity between the two Parties, States and peoples.

General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Volachith affirmed that the visit brought the Lao people great encouragement from their close friends, comrades and brothers in Vietnam - those who have shared joys and sorrows, sacrificed their lives for the common cause of the people of the two countries; and congratulated the great achievements of the Vietnamese people in the cause of national construction and protection.

President Tran Dai Quang thanked General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Volachith, Lao leaders and Lao people for their thoughtful, warm and friendly reception; and expressed his joy at the great and important achievements that the Lao Party, State and people have achieved in recent times.

President Tran Dai Quang congratulated Laos on the successful organization of the 10th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the National Assembly election. The President expressed his belief that the Lao people will successfully carry out the tasks and goals set by the 10th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, leading the country to continue to steadily advance along the path of socialism.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed measures to promote comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern.
